IMPORTANCE OF DECISION-
MAKING FOR THE YOUNG PEOPLE
What does it mean to
make a decision?

Decision making is the

compass that guides us
on our personal growth
journey. It helps us
navigate through the
twists and turns, leading
us towards the path that
aligns with our values and
aspirations.
As Christians, our values and
aspirations are guided by the will of
God.

Because, Ephesians 5:15-16 says:

“Be very careful, then, how you live, not

as unwise but as wise making the most of
every opportunity, because the days are
evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but
understand what the Lord’s will is”.

It is about doing what is

DAILY CHOICES
VS
SIGNIFICANT LIFE DECISIONS
Personal and spiritual
well-being

Personal and Spiritual Wellness in

general relate to a sense of purpose, the
meaning of life and our relationship to
God and people.
A healthy Spiritual life may include
volunteerism, social contributions,
belonging to a group, fellowship,
optimism,
forgiveness and expressions of
compassion.
The impact of decisions on personal
and spiritual well-being

Decision making plays a vital role in our

overall well-being.
The choices we make determine the
path we take in life and, consequently,
our level of happiness and contentment.
Poor decision making can lead to
negative consequences that can
negatively impact our well-being.

On the other hand, making well-

informed and thoughtful decisions can
lead to positive outcomes and enhance
our well-being.
Decision making also affects our
self-confidence. When we make
decisions that align with our values and
goals, we feel more empowered and
confident in ourselves.
This boosts our overall well-being and
allows us to tackle challenges with a
positive mindset.

💪
Decision making can also impact our
relationships. The choices we make in
our interactions with others can
strengthen or weaken our connections.
For example, deciding to communicate
openly and honestly with a loved one
can lead to stronger bonds and a
deeper sense of well-being.

DEFINE PERSONAL VALUES

What is Personal
value?

Your values are the beliefs and

principles that you believe are
important in the way that you
live and work. They determine
your priorities, and guide your
decisions and the way you act
towards others.
How do the values guide decision-
making?

Knowing your core personal values

makes it clear who you are, and is
fundamental for all your decision-
making reasoning. Another important
fact is that our personal core values
help us in making decisions that make
our lives most fulfilling.
Values are subjective;
no one can tell you what to prioritize.
The list of potential values is
enormous. Here are a few examples:

Trust Honest Fun

Empathy y
Relationshi
Persistence p
Authenticit
One advantage of values-driven
behaviours is that you always remain
true to what's important. In this way,
you get something positive from every
experience,
no matter the outcome.

DISCERNMENT IN DECISION-
MAKING
“Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and
he will establish your plans. The LORD
works out everything to its proper end—
even the wicked for a day of disaster. The
LORD detests all the proud of heart. Be
sure of this:
They will not go unpunished.”

Proverb 16, 3
In any decision making, we need to look at
the decision prayerfully from all angles. We
need to take time with the decision, be
patient, trust the process, and ultimately
trust that God will lead us to the right place
if we do our part as best we can.
In the end, we must follow what our heart
and gut tell us to do and what seems right
to us.
“But everything should be done in a fitting
and orderly way.”

1 Corinthians 14:40
Therefore, prayer and reflection go
together in discernment in decision-
making.
It helps us to seek God’s guidance in all our
decisions

PEER PRESSURE AND EXTERNAL

FORCES
Dealing with peer pressure as a
Christian
1Peter 4: 1-11

We must develop a new mindset

If we want to resist peer pressure, the

first step is to develop a mindset that
claims the truth for its own: to be able
to say,
“No, I am not that person any more. I
am different now…I am finished with
sin”.

1Peter 4: 1-11
Make lifestyle choices out of that new
mindset

Being a Christian is not a hobby, it’s not an

optional extra to be fitted around the rest of
life. It is a lifestyle of spiritual discipline:
not so that we can’t have any fun or enjoy
life and have a laugh – but so that we get
the balance right, despite the pressure we
may face.

Christian
1Peter 4: 1-11

Be motivated by love for others, not a desire

to be popular

Develop a new mindset, make lifestyle

choices out of that mindset – but do so in a
way that is always loving and never
judgmental.

1Peter 4: 1-11
Use the gifts that God has given you to build
positive relationships

Even if you struggle with the lifestyle choices

of a friend or colleague, you must not judge
them or walk away from them. God has given
you gifts to build a stronger relationship with
them: so speak to them the words very words
of God and love them and serve them to the
best of your ability
We are called to live counter-cultural lives;
not giving in to peer pressure and doing
what others want us to do but
seek instead to do the will of God in our
lives.
PRAYER ABOUT DECISION MAKING

Dear God, I look to no one else for wisdom

because you are the ultimate and true
source of all wisdom. I humbly ask for Your
help in making the important and difficult
decisions in my life because I don’t know
how to make it without You.
Please, give me direction and wisdom so I
can make the right decision and bring glory
to Your name. Dear God, I come to You
because I ask You for the patience to keep
myself from making rash decisions.
Give me the calmness and composure for
every decision in my life, big or small. God,
grant me patience even if the road seems
long, and stop me from rushing my choices.
Amen.”
