Origin:
Kangra, Shimla, Chamba, Kinnaur and Kulu districts of
Himachal Pradesh.
Physical characteristics:
Well built and sturdy, prominent and alert eyes and the Roman
nose. Predominantly white but gray and red colour; higher
17-19cm long and lustrous; one clip weighs 0.5- 1kg. Meat is
coarse and devoid of fat. The hairs are used for ropes, snow-
boots and coarse rug making.

Origin:
Lahaul and Spiti valley of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarkashi,
Chamoli and Pithoragarh districts of Uttaranchal.
Physical characteristics:
Predominantly white but greyish red and mixed colours seen.
Long hair below which under coat of delicate fibre (cashmere or
pashm).
Medium-sized animals and produce good quality meat. Also
used for draught (pack) to carry salt and small loads.
CHANGTHANGI

Origin:
Changthang region of Leh and Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir.
Physical characteristics:
Predominantly white (50%) and rest brown, grey black. Undercoat
white / grey; yields warm delicate fibre, pashmina (cashmere,
pashm). Small size, strong body and powerful legs. Average age at
first kidding 20 months.

Origin: Found in the hilly terrains of Jammu and Kashmir
Physical Traits:
Coat: Predominantly white, with some individuals exhibiting
black markings on the face or hindquarters.
Hair: Covered with long, dense hair, providing insulation
against cold climates.
Udder: Medium-sized and pendulous in females .
