• Windows 10 is one of the series operating systems
that Microsoft has developed for personal computers. Windows Versions o Windows 10 o Windows 8.1 o Windows 8 o Windows 7 o Windows Vista o Windows XP Hardware Requirements o Processer: 1GHz or faster processor. o Ram: 1GB for 32 bit or 2 GB for 64 bit or larger o Hard Disk: 16 GB for 32 or 32 GB for 64 of larger. o Graphics Card: DirectX 9 or later with WDDM driver. o Display: 800x600 Windows 10 Features Start Menu o To use the menu click the windows icon at the bottom left of the screen. o You can also use another lesser menu by clicking windows button plus X to access features like command prompt, control panel and task manager. Windows 10 Features… Edge Browser o Microsoft introduced the Edge browser to replace the old browser. Windows 10 Features… Windows Security o Some of the best security features include: o Windows Hello: Software that uses facial recognition to unlock your machine using its webcam, as well as to unlock more than a dozen apps. o Microsoft Defender: The antivirus program and internet security software comes free with Windows 10. Windows 10 Features… o Automatic updates: Unlike previous versions of the OS, Windows 10 offers automatic updates by default, to keep systems more secure. Starting Windows 10 o To start windows 10 click the power button of the computer. o The windows then starts booting and brings you the log in screen if one is set. o Type your password and click enter. o The desktop screen will appear. Desktop Desktop Components o The Desktop is the main screen o It is the work area where dialog boxes, windows, icons, and menus appear. o The desktop consists of two main components: 1. Desktop that contains many components like icons "file, folder, shortcut. Etc. 2. Task bar. Icons o An icon is a graphic image, a small picture or object that represents a file, program, web page, or command. o We can classify icons as the following: o Folder icons, File icons and Shortcut icons. Files store data. While folders store files and other folders. And a shortcut is a link that points to a program on the computer. Working With Windows o Whenever you open a program, file, or folder, it appears on your screen in a box or frame called a window. o That's where the Windows operating system gets its name. Parts of Window o Although the contents of every window are different, all windows share some things in common. Working With Windows… Title Bar o Displays the name of the document and program (or the folder name if you're working in a folder). Minimize, Maximize, and Close buttons o These buttons hide the window, enlarge it to fill the whole screen, and close it, respectively. Menu bar. o Contains items that you can click to make choices in a program. Working With Windows… Scroll bar o Let’s you scroll the contents of the window to see information that is currently out of view. Borders and corners o You can drag these with your mouse pointer to change the size of the window. Working With Windows… Moving a window o To move a window, point to its title bar with the mouse pointer . o Then drag the window to the location that you want. Working With Windows… Dialog Box o A dialog box is a special type of window that asks you a question, o Allows you to select options to perform a task, or provides you with information. o Unlike regular windows, most dialog boxes can't be maximized, minimized, or resized. They can, however, be moved. Dialog Box Window Understanding Parts of Windows o When you open a folder you see it in a window. o The various parts of this window are designed to help you navigate around Windows or work with files and folders Understanding Parts of Windows… Back and Forward buttons o To navigate to other folders you've already opened without closing the current window. Toolbar o Is used to perform common tasks, such as changing the appearance of your files and folders. Understanding Part of Windows… Address Bar o Use the address bar to navigate to a different folder or to go back to a previous one. Toolbar o Is used to perform common tasks, such as changing the appearance of your files and folders. Understanding Parts of Windows… Column Headings o Use the column headings to change how the files in the file list are organized. File list o This is where the contents of the current folder is displayed. Search box o Type a word or phrase in the search box to look for an item in the current folder. Working with File and Folder Selecting Single Object o To select a single object, click on it once. Selecting Multiple Objects o There are several ways to select Multiple files or folders: o To select a consecutive group of files or folders, click the first item, press and hold down the Shift key, and then click the last item. Working with File and Folder… o To select Multiple files or folders that are near each other, drag the mouse pointer to create a selection around the outside of all the items that you want to include. o To select non-consecutive files or folders, press and hold down the Ctrl key, and then click each item that you want to select. o To select all of the files or folders in a window, click Ctrl+A. Working with File and Folder… Rename o Click the file or folder to select it. o Right-click the folder. o Select rename and type the new name. o Click enter. Copying o Open the location that contains the file you want to copy. o Right-click the file, and then click Copy. Working with File and Folder… o Open the location where you want to store the copy. o Right-click an empty space within the location, and then click Paste. Moving (cut) o Moving cuts the item from its previous location and places it in a new location. o Copying leaves the original item where it was and creates a copy of the item elsewhere. Working with File and Folder… Create a Folder o Open the drive or folder where you want to create a folder. o Click the New folder button on the toolbar. o With the New Folder name selected, type a new name. o Press Enter. Working with File and Folder… Deleting o Select the file or folder. o Click the Organize button and select Delete from the pull-down menu. o After you select delete a confirmation message appears. Opening an existing file or folder o To open a file, double-click it. The file will usually open in the program that you used to create or change it. Working with File and Folder… Search for a file and folder o Windows provides several ways to find files and folders. o There isn't one best way to search—you can use different methods for different situations. Use the search box on the Start menu o Click the Start button and then type a word or part of a word in the search box. o Search result appear as soon as you start typing in the search box. Working with File and Folder… Use the search box in a folder o Type a word or part of a word in the search box. o As you type, the contents of the folder are filtered to reflect each successive character you type. o When you see the file that you want, stop typing. Working with Control Panel o You can use Control Panel to change settings for Windows. o There are two ways to find Control Panel items. o Use search: To find a setting you're interested in or a task you want to perform, type a word or phrase in the search box. o Browse: you can explore Control Panel by clicking different categories.
