MANUAL HANDLING

Steps for Manual Lifting

• Keep feet apart to give a balanced and
stable base for lifting.
• Bend the knees so that the hands are
as near to the waist as possible.
• Keep the back straight, chin tucked-in, lean over the load
if necessary [Shoulders in same direction as hips].
EXCAVATION SAFETY
• The excavated soil should be kept 1.5 meters away from the excavated pit / Trench.
• Excavation signage board should be placed near the excavated area.
• Slopping / Benching / Soring is required for excavations deeper than 1.5 meters.
• Hard barrication with two horizontal line 500mm from ground level and again 500mm from the first horizontal
line and vertical line is required for hard barricading.
• step cutting or ladder required to be provided for access / egress inside the excavated trench / pit.
EXCAVATION SAFETY
Excavation Hazards:
• Collapse of the sides Unstable soil, especially in deep trenches, can cave in, burying workers.
• Falling objects: Excavated materials, tools, or equipment can fall on workers from above.
• Underground services: Hitting gas lines, electrical cables, or water pipes can cause explosions,
electrocution, or flooding.
• Water accumulation: Excess water can destabilize soil, causing cave-ins or posing a drowning
hazard.
• Falls into the excavation: Workers or vehicles can fall into the excavation if edges are not
properly protected.
• Vehicular traffic and equipment: Heavy vehicles and equipment near the excavation can
contribute to instability and accidents.
• Atmospheric hazards: Excavated areas can have low oxygen or contain hazardous gases.
• Tripping hazards: Debris, tools, and equipment in the excavation can cause slips and falls.
DO’S FOR SNAKE BITE
EMERGENCY

• Avoid yourself or victim from risk of a second bite.

• Remove tight clothing, shoes, watch or rings near bite area
before swelling starts.
• Calm the victim. Virtually all snakebites are successfully
treated. Panic can increase the danger to the victim by
inducing rapid heartbeat.
• Apply hard direct pressure with gauze pad at bite area.
• Soak gauze pad with Betadine if possible before application.
• Wrap affected extremity with 2"-3" elastic bandaging.
• Wrap as tightly as one would for a sprain.
• Keep the bitten limb below the level of the heart. This slows
down the spread of the poison to the heart.
• Immobilize affected extremity; use a splint if possible.
• Get medical attention as soon as possible.
DON’TS FOR SNAKE BITE EMERGENCY

Don’ts:

• Do not bleed the wound.

• Do not put ice on the bite.
• Do not eat or drink anything.
• Do not engage in strenuous physical activity.
• Do not cut or incise bite marks.
• Do not apply oral suction to bite.
• Do not take any self medication.
• Do not delay seeking medical attention.
• Do not remove dressings/elastic wrap until arrival at hospital
(laboratory might need to take a swab to identify the snake.
EMERGECNCY
PREPARAEDNESS
