Skeletal Structure and Block Diagram of CNC Based - Electrical Discharge Machine

The document discusses the integration of manufacturing systems, focusing on Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM), a process that shapes metal using electrical discharges. It covers the principles of EDM, including the role of electrodes and the importance of non-contact between them, as well as the use of CNC (Computerized Numerical Control) in manufacturing. Additionally, it explains the functions of rectifier circuits, current control, and servo control in the EDM process.

PRINCIPLE

 Electrical discharge machining (EDM), also known as spark

machining, spark eroding, die sinking, wire burning or wire erosion, is a
metal fabrication process whereby a desired shape is obtained by using
electrical discharges (sparks).

PRINCIPLE

 Material is removed from the work piece by a series of rapidly

recurring current discharges between two electrodes, separated by
a dielectric liquid and subject to an electric voltage.
 One of the electrodes is called the tool-electrode, or simply
the tool or electrode, while the other is called the workpiece-
electrode, or work piece. The process depends upon the tool and
work piece not making physical contact.

CNC INTRODUCTION

 CNC stands for Computerized

Numerical Control. It is a
computerized manufacturing
process in which pre-
programmed software and
code controls the movement of
production equipment.

RECTIFIER CIRCUIT

 A Rectifier is an electrical device

that converts alternating current
(AC), which periodically reverses
direction, to direct current (DC),
which flows in only one
direction.The process is known as
rectification, since it "straightens"
the direction of current.

CURRENT CONTROL

 The performance is affected by

discharge current, pulse on time,
pulse off time, duty cycle, voltage for
EDM
 A field-effect transistor (FET) controls
the width of a current path called the
channel that is created by the
voltage applied across the gate and
source terminals.

SERVO CONTROL

 Servo control is the regulation of speed (velocity) and position of a

motor based on a feedback signal. The most basic servo loop is the
speed loop. This produces a torque command to minimize the error
between speed command and speed feedback.
