Football, tennis, and other famous sports,
came to us from the UK. But the British
have become famous for unusual
competitions, which at first caused joy and
fun, and afterwards they were recognized
as sports games in many countries of the
world.
 Боссабол
Bossaball
 Bossaball is a sport which is similar to
volleyball, and also includes elements of
football, gymnastics and capoeira. This sport
was developed by Filip Eyckmans in 2004 in
Spain. The term bossa means 'style' in
Portuguese, and it is often associated with the
Bossa Nova or samba type of music. It
suggests that the aim of bossaball is to
express sports, music and positive vibrations
at the same time.
 Bossaball is played on an inflatable court with
trampolines on each side of the net. This
allows the players to bounce as high as they
can to spike the ball.
 Bossaball involves two teams with 4 or 5
players each. The height of the net can be
adjusted depending on who plays. A team gain
points by scoring or by an opponent’s fault.

Toe wrestling
 In the 1970s, a group of friends at the Ye Olde
Royal Oak Inn in Staffordshire bemoaned
England’s lack of dominance in the world
sporting scene. If they invented a sport that no
one else was playing, they’d have to win! And
toe wrestling was born. In this activity, barefoot
competitors link their big toes on a specially
designed “toedium” and attempt to pin the
other’s foot to the ground in a manner similar to
arm wrestling.

invented in 1954, now this kind of
entertainment is popular in many
countries. The main condition is to
install a gate at the bottom of the
pool, carry an underwater mask,
fins, a plug of the ears, and a tube to

direction of the opponent.

Ironing competition
 Extreme ironing is an outdoor sport
that combines the danger and
excitement of an “extreme” sport with
the satisfaction of a well-pressed shirt.
 It involves taking an iron and board to
remote locations and ironing a few
items of laundry.
 This can involve ironing on a
mountainside, preferably on a difficult
climb, or taking an iron skiing,
scooting, or canoeing.

Cheese racing
 This fun competition is arranged in
Gloucester meeting the first day of
spring. The huge heads of cheese start
rolling down a steep hill, and a group of
daredevils runs after cheese to be the
first to catch it. In this competition, both
men and women participate. The winner
takes home a big head of the most
delicious cheese in the neighborhood. Of
course, it does not do without injuries
and injured limbs, but the joy of victory
and general fun outweigh these
unpleasant moments.

Swamp football
 Swamp football (sometimes called Swamp
soccer) is a form of association football that is
played in swamps. The sport is said to come from
Finland where it initially was used as an exercise
activity for athletes and soldiers, since playing on
soft bog is physically demanding.
 The first organized competition was held in 1998,
when 13 teams gathered to play for the Finnish
Championship.
 The sport is particularly popular in Finland,
Sweden, Iceland, Holland, Russia and Brazil. The
World Championships in swamp football is played
in northern Finland, the first taking place in 2000.

Chess boxing
 Chess boxing is a hybrid sport that is a
combination of chess and boxing; played in
alternate rounds. This sport is gaining
popularity in Germany, UK, India, and
Russia.
 The participants in chess boxing must have
skills in both sports; they can with a game
either way. A full chess-boxing match has
eleven rounds, with six rounds of chess, five
rounds of boxing and a 1-minute break each
round. The bouts start and end in chess play.
The chess can last up to three or four
minutes, the boxing match can last up to
three minutes. The participants only have 12
minutes to use all of their chess moves.

Lawn Mower Racing
The appearance of the lawn is the
face of any English landlord.
In 1972, a group of young
neighbor's children decided to
organize a competition who would
swiftly mow the lawn in front of
their house. Everyone was sitting on
his mini-car and the real races
began. The very first race on lawn
mowers was officially opened in
1992.

 Mobile phone throwing is an

international sport that started in
Finland in the year 2000. It's a
sport in which participants
throw mobile phones and are
judged on distance or technique.
World record holder is Dries
Feremans with an official
guinness world record throw of
110m42cm.
