BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Effective pronunciation is crucial for clear communication
in English, the global lingua franca. Many ESL students,
including those at Roman C. Villalon Memorial Colleges
Foundation Inc. (RCVMCFI), struggle with pronunciation due to
limited practice opportunities and a lack of immediate
corrective feedback.
Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) technology has
emerged as a promising tool to address these challenges. ASR
systems provide immediate, personalized feedback, allowing
learners to practice and refine their pronunciation
independently. This study explores the effectiveness of ASR2
technology in improving ESL learners’ pronunciation at
STATEMENT OF THE
PROBLEM
How can the use of Automatic Speech Recognition
technology improve the pronunciation skills of ESL
students at Roman C. Villalon Memorial Colleges
Foundation Inc. (RCVMCFI)?

SCOPE AND LIMITATION
The study will focus on 30 intermediate-level
ESL students at RCVMCFI. It will assess the
impact of ASR technology on students’
pronunciation over a six-week period. The
study will not address other aspects of
language learning, such as grammar or
vocabulary.
