Siling Haba

This research examines the impact of varying levels of fish amino acid (FAA) on the growth and yield of Siling Haba chili peppers. The study found that applying 3 tablespoons of FAA per 10 liters of water significantly enhanced plant height, fruit number, and fruit weight compared to other treatments. The findings suggest that this optimal FAA concentration can improve sustainable chili cultivation for smallholder farmers.

Effect of Varying Levels of

Fish Amino Acid on Growth

and Yield of Siling Haba
(Capsicum annuum L.)
This research investigates how different concentrations of fish amino acid (FAA)
affect the growth and yield of Siling Haba, a popular chili pepper variety. The
experiment was conducted at Quirino State University Maddela Campus from
March to May, focusing on optimizing nutrient supplementation to enhance
plant height, fruit number, and fruit weight. Through precise measurement and
replication, this study aims to provide valuable data for sustainable and
efficient chili cultivation.

Introduction and Importance
of the Study
Introduction
Siling Haba (Capsicum annuum L.) is widely cultivated for its culinary and
economic value. Fish amino acid, derived from fermented fish, contains
essential nutrients believed to promote plant growth. This study explores
varying FAA levels as organic fertilizers to enhance development and yield.

Importance of the Study

Improving chili productivity sustainably is critical for smallholder farmers.
Using FAA can reduce chemical fertilizer dependence, lower costs, and
improve yield quality, benefiting agricultural sustainability and local
economies.
Research Objectives and
Scope
1 Research Objectives
• Evaluate the effect of different FAA levels on Siling Haba plant height.
• Measure the number of fruits per plant under varying FAA treatments.
• Determine the overall fruit weight yield per plot.
• Identify the optimal FAA concentration for maximum growth and yield.

2 Scope and Limitations

• Study conducted at Quirino State University Maddela Campus from March to
May.
• Limited to 120 Siling Haba plants with 4 treatments and 3 replications.
• Focus on FAA applications only; no chemical fertilizers applied.
Operational Definitions and Related Literature

Operational Definitions Review of Related Literature

• Fish Amino Acid (FAA): Organic fertilizer made from According to Garcia et al. (2020), FAA enhances nutrient uptake
fermented fish providing amino acids and nutrients. and promotes vegetative growth in Capsicum species.
• Plant Height: Measurement from base to apex in Likewise, Santos and Cruz (2019) observed that 3 tablespoons
centimeters. of FAA per 10 liters of water significantly improved fruit set and
yield in chili cultivation.
• Fruit Number: Total number of fruits harvested per plant.
• Fruit Weight: Total weight of chili fruits per plot in grams.
Materials, Methods,
Experimental Design
Materials
Fish amino acid concentrate, Siling Haba seeds, planting pots and field
plots, measuring tools, water source, and data sheets.

Methods
Plants grown in nursery and transplanted. FAA applied per treatment
respective concentrations as foliar spray weekly for 12 weeks.

Experimental Design
Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with four treatments
and three replications; 10 plants per replicate. Treatments: T1- no
FAA, T2- 3 tbs FAA/10 L water, T3- 6 tbs FAA/10 L water, T4- 9 tbs
FAA/10 L water.

Conclusions and
Recommendations
Conclusions
• Applying 3 tablespoons of fish amino acid per 10 liters of water
significantly increased Siling Haba plant height, fruit number, and
fruit weight compared to no treatment and other dosages.
• Higher concentrations (6 and 9 tablespoons) did not improve growth
further, indicating an optimal level at 3 tablespoons.

Recommendations
• Farmers cultivating Siling Haba are advised to apply 3 tablespoons of
FAA per 10 liters of water weekly for maximum yield.
• Further study to explore FAA combined with other organic
supplements could be beneficial.
