• The document summarizes some key aspects of
geometry and architecture in Ladakh, India. It

cultural norms prevalent here,

identification marks woven into
them through patterns.

geometric patterns on the floors
and walls of houses. They are
intricate patterns, that represent
the auspicious ceremony and
rituals of life, symbolized in

a certain understanding of ratios
and proportions, which the
women of the community have
been using with great dexterity.

• Karnataka is renowned for its rich textile heritage,

especially in handloom weaving and silk production.
Geometry plays a crucial role in both design
aesthetics and symbolic representation in its
textiles.
1. Ilkal Sarees
Geometrical Elements: Vertical and horizontal stripes,
checkerboard patterns, and temple borders (called
gopura designs).

Symbolism: The triangular motifs on the borders often
2. Mysore Silk Sarees
Geometrical Precision: While
Mysore silk sarees are known
for their plain, glossy bodies,
the zari borders often feature
symmetric geometrical
motifs like:
Diamond patterns

Repetitive wave-like jaali
structures
Technique: Patterns are
woven using precise
