EDC Practical -09

The document provides instructions for setting up drawing units and limits in a CAD system, including how to change drawing limits and create rectangles. It details steps for drawing rectangles with dimensions, chamfers, elevations, fillets, thickness, and width. Additionally, it explains how to modify rectangle vertices and save the drawing for the first time.

PRACTICAL-09

Change The Drawing Limits, Creating

Rectangle Etc. Saving Drawing For First

Time.
BASICS……..
DRAWING UNITS SETUP
 Every object we construct in a CAD system is
measured in units.
 In the Menu Bar select:
[Format] [Units]
 Click on the Length Type option to display the different
types of length units available.
 Confirm the Length Type is set to Decimal.
 In the Drawing Units dialog box, set the Length Type
to Decimal. This will set the measurement to the default
English units, inches.
DRAWING UNITS SETUP
 Set the Precision to two digits after the decimal point as
shown in the figure.
 Pick OK to exit the Drawing Units dialog box.
DRAWING AREA SETUP
 We will set up the Drawing Limits by entering a command
in the command prompt area.
 Setting the Drawing Limits controls the extents of the
display of the grid.
 It also serves as a visual reference that marks the working
area.
 It can also be used to prevent construction outside the grid
limits and as a plot option that defines an area to be
plotted/printed.
 Note that this setting does not limit the region for geometry
construction.
CHANGE THE DRAWING LIMITS
 In the Menu Bar select:

[Format] [Drawing Limits]

 In the command prompt area, the message “Reset

Model Space Limits: Specify lower left corner or [On/Off]

<0.00,0.00>:” is displayed. Press the ENTER key once to

accept the default coordinates <0.00,0.00>.

 In the command prompt area, the message
“Specify upper right corner <12.00,9.00>:” is
displayed. Press the ENTER key again to accept
the default coordinates <12.00,9.00>.

 On your own, move the graphics cursor near the

upper-right corner inside the drawing area and
note that the drawing area is unchanged. (The
Drawing Limits command is used to set the
drawing area, but the display will not be adjusted
until a display command is used.)
 Inside the Menu Bar area select:
[View] [Zoom] [All]
 The Zoom All command will adjust the display so that all objects
in the drawing are displayed to be as large as possible. If no
objects are constructed, the Drawing Limits are used to adjust the
current viewport.

 Move the graphics cursor near the upper-right corner inside the
drawing
area and note that the display area is updated.
HOW TO DRAW RECTANGLE

Click Home tab ---- Draw panel---Rectangle drop-down Corner .
 Click in the drawing area to specify the first
corner of the rectangle (1 in the illustration).
 Specify the opposite corner. To specify the
corner by selecting a point:
 In the drawing area, click the point to use as
the opposite corner (2 in the illustration).
 To specify the corner by entering the distance
to the point:
a) If you are unable to see dimensions in tooltips as shown in the
illustration above, press F12.
b) In the tooltip along the base (3 in the illustration), enter the base
length and press TAB.
c) Enter the value for the height and press ENTER.
DRAW THE RECTANGLE WITH
DIMENSIONS (LENGTH, WIDTH)
 On the command line, enter rectangle.
 Specify the coordinate location for the first corner point.
 Enter d to select the Dimensions option.
 Enter a numeric value to specify the length for the
rectangle. This value becomes the X direction value.
 Enter a numeric value to specify the width for the
rectangle. This value becomes the Y direction value.
 Pick a point that defines the direction of the other
(diagonal) corner point to place the rectangle and
complete the command.
 Note: When prompted to "Specify other corner point or
[Dimensions]:" in step 6, you can control how the rectangle
is placed by dragging your crosshairs around the first
corner point.
DRAW RECTANGLE WITH –
CHAMFER
ELEVATION
FILLET.
THICKNESS
WIDTH.

1) On the command line, enter REC. as shown in above fig.

2) 1st we will draw chamfer -

REC command ---Space/enter– specify first corner point— “C”
enter---- first chamfer distance..i.e. 5----enter--- Second Chamfer
Distance i.e. 5--- enter --- draw rectangle.
REMOVE CHAMFER COMMAND

 REC command ---SPACE/ENTER– SPECIFY FIRST CORNER POINT—

“C” ENTER---- first chamfer distance..i.e. 0----ENTER--- Second

Chamfer Distance i.e. 5--- enter --- press esc.

 Elevation Command
 REC--- space/enter--- specify first corner point— “E” enter---specify
elevation for rectangle i.e. 20---enter--- specify first corner point---

Draw The Same Rectangle.

 Fillet Command.
 REC command ---Space/enter– specify first corner point— “F”
enter---- fillet radius for rectangle..i.e. 10----enter--- specify first

corner point --- draw rectangle.

Thickness Command
 REC command ---Space/enter– specify first corner
point— “T” enter---- Specify thickness for
rectangle..i.e. 20----enter--- specify first corner point ---
draw rectangle.

Width Command:-
REC command ---Space/enter– specify first corner point
— “W” enter-----Specify line width for rectangle..i.e.5----
enter--- specify first corner point --- draw rectangle.
