Pollution
Pollution
Pollution is the
contamination of
the environment,
including air, water,
and soil, with
harmful substances
or energy that
negatively impacts
the natural world
and living
organisms
AIR POLLUTION
Air pollution is defined
as the contamination of
the atmosphere with
harmful substances,
including gases,
particles, or a
combination of both, that
can negatively impact
human health,
ecosystems, and the
climate. These
contaminating
substances, called air
pollutants, can originate
from various sources,
including natural events
like wildfires or volcanic
eruptions, and human
activities like industrial
processes and vehicle
emissions.
WATER POLLUTION
Water pollution
occurs when harmful
substances—often
chemicals or
microorganisms—
contaminate a
stream, river, lake,
ocean, aquifer, or
other body of water,
degrading water
quality and rendering
it toxic to humans or
the environment. This
widespread problem
of water pollution is
jeopardizing our
health.
LAND POLLUTION
Land pollution — or
the degradation of
our soil by outside
contaminants — is
largely the result
of unsustainable
agricultural
practices, the
improper disposal
of waste (both
hazardous and
non-hazardous),
mining (often
called “mineral
extraction”), illegal
dumping and
littering.
SOIL POLLUTION
Soil pollution
refers to the
presence of a
chemical or
substance out of
place and/or
present in a soil at
higher than normal
concentration that
has adverse effects
on any non-
targeted organism
THERMAL POLLUTION
Thermal pollution
is the degradation
of water quality
caused by a
change in water
temperature. It's a
type of water
pollution that
occurs when
human activities
alter the natural
temperature of a
water body.
NOISE POLLUTION
Noise pollution, or
sound pollution, is
the propagation of
noise or sound
with potential
harmful effects on
humans and
animals. The
source of outdoor
noise worldwide is
mainly caused by
machines,
transport and
propagation
systems.
PLASTIC
POLLUTION
Plastic pollution is the
accumulation of
plastic in the
environment, causing
harm to humans,
wildlife, and
ecosystems. This
pollution is primarily
caused by single-use
plastics, land-based
runoff, and improper
waste disposal. The
effects range from
physical harm to
wildlife and
ecosystems to health
concerns for humans.
RADIOACTIVE
POLLUTION
Radioactive pollution,
also known as radiation
pollution, is the release
of radioactive
substances into the
environment, often
resulting in harmful
effects on human health
and the environment. It
can occur through
various sources,
including nuclear power
plants, nuclear weapons
testing, and improper
waste disposal. The
term "radioactive
contamination" refers to
the presence of
radioactive substances
where their presence is
unintended or
undesirable.
LIGHT
POLLUTION
Light pollution, a form
of environmental
pollution, refers to
the excessive or
inappropriate use of
artificial light at
night. It can disrupt
natural ecosystems,
impact human health,
and waste
energy. This
phenomenon is
characterized by the
alteration of natural
light-dark cycles,
causing various
negative
consequences.
