What is Purpose of Procedure

Text
The purpose of procedure text is to show how something is
made/used/done through sequence of steps.
WHAT IS THE STRUCTURE
OF A PROCEDURE TEXT?
1. Goal

Every procedure text begins with a clear objective. This section sets the
stage by outlining what the reader aims to achieve. Without a well-
defined goal, readers might lose focus on what they’re trying to
accomplish.

Examples:
In a recipe: “Bake a moist chocolate cake.”
In a science experiment: “Demonstrate a chemical reaction using vinegar
and baking soda.”
A well-stated goal helps readers understand the purpose behind the
steps that follow.
2. Materials or Ingredients

Before diving into the steps, it’s essential to gather everything

you’ll need. This section lists the tools, equipment, or ingredients
required to complete the task efficiently.

Materials: For assembling furniture, materials might include

screws, a screwdriver, nails, or a hammer.
Ingredients: For cooking, this section lists the food items and
their measurements, just like a handy shopping list.
3. Steps
This is the heart of your procedure text. Here, you’ll break
down the task into clear, actionable instructions. Each step
should be written in a logical sequence, using concise and
straightforward language.

Tip: Use command-based sentences and keep instructions

easy to follow. The clearer the steps, the less room there is
for confusion.
WHAT ARE THE LANGUAGE
FEATURES OF A PROCEDURE
1. Simple Present Tense
TEXT?
The simple present tense makes the process feel immediate and
actionable, guiding readers as if the task is happening right now.

Examples:
Pour the water into the glass.
Mix the ingredients until well combined.
Find a strategic location
choose the proper barista
2. Imperative Sentences
These are direct commands that tell the reader exactly what to do.
They’re clear, straightforward, and necessary for effective
instructions.

Examples:
Knead the dough until smooth, then let it rest for 30 minutes.
Apply the paint evenly using broad strokes.
take advantage of social media
look for the best supplier
3. Connectives
Connectives help guide readers logically through each
step, linking actions and ensuring a smooth flow of
information.

Examples:
First, wash the rice. Then, soak it for 20 minutes.
After that, mix the ingredients in a bowl.
4. Adverbs
Adverbs add detail by explaining how an action should be
performed. They provide clarity and precision.

Examples:

Slowly add water to the flour while stirring.

Thoroughly wash the vegetables to remove dirt.
