Effects: Regulate thought patterns, mood
Typical Antipsychotics:
- Block dopamine D2 receptors in the brain.
- Reduce positive symptoms of psychosis (e.g.,
hallucinations, delusions).
Atypical Antipsychotics:
- Block dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT2A
receptors.
- Target both positive and negative symptoms of
psychosis.
Classification of Antipsychotics
1. Typical (First-Generation).
- MOA: Block D2 receptors.
2. Atypical (Second-Generation)
- MOA: Block D2 and 5-HT2A receptors.
Typical Antipsychotics
Examples:Risperidone,Clozapine,Olanzapine,Quetiapin

Adverse effect: metabolism syndrome agranulocytosis
and cardiovascular events
Indications: Schizophrenia, bipolar disorder,severe
depresssion
Contraidication :severe liver and kidney disease,
hypersentivity, pregnacy and breast feeding
