Getting a return on digital technology investments: Insights for oil field and equipment and services (OFES) companies
Digital technologies can have a disruptive impact on the landscape of how work is done in the oil field, with the potential to redraw the value chain, deliver a step change in productivity and create new channels to market, but services and machine and equipment manufacturing companies need robust strategies to succeed.
Companies can become enamored with technological advancements, failing to consider how best to apply them toward business goals—at times spending on ventures and business models that do not deliver.
Leaders understand where and how disruptions will impact them—accurately assessing maturity and gaps in the existing digital culture—and determine which solutions are appropriate to further the overall digital vision while delivering the highest return on investment.

Raleigh NC Docker Meetup presentation from October 21, 2015.
Doing development and test for an application on your laptop or a single server is an effective and quick way to ensure functionality, but can be limiting for larger applications. When the application is ready to deploy into production using containers, you’re going to want to use more than one server to increase resources and provide distributed availability. There are a large number of orchestration platforms for Docker which allow you to define an application consisting of one or more containers, and then coordinate deploying the application across small and large farms of servers. In this session we will concentrate on the three most popular orchestration platforms: Mesos, Kubernetes, and Docker Swarm. We will learn how each of them defines an application, some of their strengths, some weaknesses, and why you might choose one over another.
How to solve misalignment lun netapp on linux servers by IvanIvan Silva
1) The document provides steps to properly configure disk alignment on Linux servers using Netapp LUNs (iSCSI or FC/FCOE) to avoid potential performance issues as storage grows.
2) Key steps include installing correct host and SnapDrive utilities, configuring multipath software, creating LUNs specifying the Linux OS type, creating an initiator group for Linux, and changing the LUN partition start sector to a value evenly divisible by eight using fdisk.
3) The lun alignment show command on the Netapp storage checks the read and write alignment histogram percentages to confirm if the LUN is aligned, partial, or indeterminate.

Addressing Issues of Risk, and Governance in OpenStack without sacrificing Agility
Audience: Intermediate
Topic: Public & Hybrid Clouds
Abstract: OpenStack has rapidly moved beyond the “science project” label that many of its detractors’ use, but for many stakeholders there are still many uncertainties around governance, compliance, data security and data retention. These issues are the biggest inhibitors to adoption of any cloud technology and left unanswered will slow down the adoption of OpenStack, particularly within government and highly regulated industries such as healthcare. In this presentation NetApp outlines a hybrid approach that leverages the best of open-source and next generation technologies within an OpenStack deployment, as well as a way of unifying data management across OpenStack, HyperScale public cloud and traditional Enterprise architecture that addresses these questions while providing a solid platform for rapid innovation.

Big data analytics enables organizations to derive meaningful insights from large volumes of structured and unstructured data. New tools can analyze petabytes of data across various formats and identify patterns and trends. This helps optimize processes, reduce risks, and uncover new opportunities. Examples include detecting healthcare treatment patterns that improve outcomes, preventing bank fraud, and predicting consumer demand to inform utility planning. While big data is still emerging, it has potential to enhance business intelligence and integrate diverse internal and external data sources for more powerful analytics.
This document provides a summary of big data analytics and how it can derive meaning from large volumes of structured and unstructured data. It discusses how new analysis tools and abundant processing power through technologies like Hadoop can unlock insights from massive data sets. Examples are given of how big data analytics can help various industries like healthcare, banking, manufacturing, and utilities to optimize processes, predict outcomes, and detect patterns. The integration of structured and unstructured data from various sources into analytical models is also described.

A Strategic View of Enterprise Reporting and Analytics: The Data FunnelInside Analysis
The Briefing Room with Colin White and Jaspersoft
Slides from the Live Webcast on June 12, 2012
As the corporate appetite for analytics and reporting grows, companies must find a way to secure a strategic view of their information architecture. End users with varying degrees of expertise need a wide range of data and reports delivered in a timely fashion. As the audience for analytics expands, that puts pressure on IT infrastructure and staff. And now with the promise of Hadoop and MapReduce, the organization's desire for business insight becomes even more significant.
In this episode of The Briefing Room, veteran Analyst Colin White of BI Research will explain the value of being strategic with enterprise reporting. White will be briefed by Karl Van den Bergh of Jaspersoft, who will tout his company's “data funnel” concept, which is designed to strategically manage an organization's information architecture. By aligning information assets along this funnel, IT can effectively address the spectrum of analytical needs – from simple reporting to complex, ad hoc analysis – without over-taxing personnel and system resources.
Big data? No. Big Decisions are What You WantStuart Miniman

Becoming an analytics-driven organization helps companies reduce costs, increase
revenues and improve competitiveness, and this is why business intelligence and
analytics continue to be a top priority for CIOs. Many business decisions, however,
are still not based on analytics, and CIOs are looking for ways to reduce time to value
for deploying business intelligence solutions so that they can expand the use of
analytics to a larger audience of users.
Companies are also interested in leveraging the value of information in so-called big
data systems that handle data ranging from high-volume event data to social media
textual data. This information is largely untapped by existing business intelligence
systems, but organizations are beginning to recognize the value of extending the
business intelligence and data warehousing environment to integrate, manage, govern
and analyze this information.
