Educational technology as a subject made me aware of
the use of technology tools in instruction ranging from the
traditional to the modern.
In essence, Ed Tech infused technology in our training
as student-teachers to allow us to cope with today’s
technology.
Definition of Educational Technology
Educational technology is the effective use of
technological tools in learning. As a concept, it concerns an
array of tools, such as media, machines and networking
hardware, as well as considering underlying theoretical
perspectives for their effective application.

Definition of Educational Technology
Educational technology includes numerous types of
media that deliver text, audio, images, animation, and
streaming video, and includes technology applications and
processes such as audio or video tape, satellite TV, CD-ROM,
and computer-based learning, as well as local intranet/extranet
and web-based learning.

Definition of Educational Technology
Educational technology and e-learning can occur in or
out of the classroom. It can be self-paced, asynchronous
learning or may be instructor-led, synchronous learning. It is
suited to distance learning and in conjunction with face-to-
face teaching, which is termed blended learning. Educational
technology is used by learners and educators in homes,
schools, businesses, and other settings.

TECHNOLOGY
• Makes the world a new place. As delivery vehicles for instructional
lessons.
• Serves as a source and presenter of knowledge.
• Technology like computers is seen as a productivity tool.
• Educational technology serve as learning tool that learners learned
with.
• The learners learns from the technology and technology serve as a
teacher.

“From the traditional point of view, technology serves as
source and presenter of knowledge. It is assumed that
knowledge is embedded in the technology (e.g. the content
presented by films and tv programs or the teaching sequence
in programmed instruction) and the technology presents that
knowledge to the student (David H. Jonasssen, et al, 1999).”

The roles of Edtech in learning
“From the constructivist point of view, educational
technology serves as learning tools that learners learn with. It
engages learners in “active, constructive, intentional,
authentic, and cooperative learning. It provides opportunities
for technology and learner interaction for meaningful
learning. In this case, technology will not be mere delivery
vehicle for content. Rather it is used as facilitator of thinking
and knowledge construction.”

From a constructivist perspective, the following are roles of technology in
learning: (Jonassen, et al 1999)
• Technology as tools to support knowledge construction.
• Technology as information vehicles for exploring knowledge to support learning-
by constructing.
• Technology as context to support learning-by doing.
• Technology as a social medium to support learning-by conversing .
• Technology as intellectual partner ( Jonassen 1996 ) to support learning-by
reflecting.

Tools and Media used in Edtech
• Audio and video
Radio offers a synchronous educational vehicle, while streaming audio over
the internet with webcasts and podcasts can be asynchronous, Classroom
microphones, often wireless, can enable learners and educators to interact more
clearly.
Video technology has included VHS tapes and DVDs, as well as on-demand
and synchronous methods with digital video via server or web-based options such
as streamed video from YouTube, Teacher Tube, Skype, Adobe Connect, and
webcams. Telecommuting can connect with speakers and other experts. Interactive
digital video games are being used at K-12 and higher education institution.

• Computers, tablets and mobile devices
Computers and tablets enable learners and educators to access
websites as well as programs such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint,
PDF files, and images. Many mobile devices support m-learning.
Mobile devices such as clickers and smartphones can be used for
interactive audience response feedback.Mobile learning can provide
performance support for checking the time, setting reminders,
retrieving worksheets, and instruction manuals

• Social networks
Group webpages, blogs, wikis, and Twitter allow learners and educators to post
thoughts, ideas, and comments on a website in an interactive learning environment. Social
networking sites are virtual communities for people interested in a particular subject to
communicate by voice, chat, instant message, video conference, or blogs.
The National School Boards Association found that 96% of students with online access
have used social networking technologies, and more than 50% talk online about schoolwork.
Social networking encourages collaboration and engagement and can be a motivational tool
for self-efficacy amongst students.Every student has his or her own learning requirements,
and a Web 2.0 educational framework provides enough resources, learning styles,
communication tools and flexibility to accommodate this diversity.

Tools and Media used in Edtech
• Webcams
Webcams and webcasting have enabled creation of virtual classrooms and
virtual learning environment.
• Whiteboards
Whiteboards predate tablets and other technological tools, but current
interactive whiteboards and smartboards allow learners and instructors to write on
the touch screen. The screen markup can be on either a blank whiteboard or any
computer screen content. Depending on permission settings, this visual learning
can be interactive and participatory, including writing and manipulating images on
the interactive whiteboard.

Tools and Media used in Edtech
• Screencasting
Screencasting allows users to share their screens directly from their
browser and make the video available online so that other viewers can stream
the video directly. The presenter thus has the ability to show their ideas and
flow of thoughts rather than simply explain them as simple text content. In
combination with audio and video, the educator can mimic the one-on-one
experience of the classroom and deliver clear, complete instructions. Learners
have an ability to pause and rewind, to review at their own pace, something a
classroom cannot always offer.

Educational technology gives us a better
comprehension on how technology is being integrated to the
teaching and learning process which could make the learning
more fun for the students and for the teachers as well, its aim
is to engage the students on a collaborative way with the
internet in order for them to learn better because learning is
said to be a social activity. One may not learn alone he needs
others to learn more comprehensively.

Topic: “Integrating Technology into Teaching and
Learning”
This lesson teaches us to be aware with the use of
different use of computer software including the Microsoft,
power point and micro excel. As a future teacher we are
given a chance to become an effective teacher someday we
are being thought for a better teaching which is also helpful
for both teacher and students.

Topic: “Educational Technology in the Asia
Pacific Region”
This lesson awaken us that those other countries are
really progressive when it comes with the development of
computer, we know that even those elementary grades are
already aware with the use of computer because of the fact
that computer plays a vital role with our learning.

Topic: “IT Enters a New Learning Environment”
The four models of school learning is very helpful in the
teaching learning process especially in integrating technology in it.
Aside from that, knowing about this models and new approaches, the
learning environment could be effective and conducive. Let us all
know that there are better ways to learn other than rote learning or
memorization and that learning is for use not only school but in real
life. So, let us engage students in teaching-learning process by the use
of different models and strategies.

Topic: “Computer as Information and
Communication Technology”
We know that we are now in the 21st century and the
computer is recognized as the third revolution of education. First is
the printing press, second libraries and lastly the computer. The mere
fact is Computer are helpful tool in gaining information but aside
from that computer can be also a communication technology with the
use of different programs such as yahoo, google, MSN we are able to
communicate to our teachers, schoolmates, relatives through online.
And it is also helpful in education, the educational media, which is
used in communicating to audiences.
The Student after Edtech
I applied some of the knowledge I have gained in
this subject when I create presentations, because we
all know that in creating good presentations in some
software involves knowledge on how to use it
properly.
The Student after Edtech
As a future educator of 21st century learners, I
believe that all the knowledge I have gain in
educational technology subject will be apply in my
future teaching.
I will use these knowldege on how to use
instructional technologies to ensure that my future
students will not just learning but also enjoying.
