Technology and business decision making in the healthcare
industry to analyze and consider the implications of cloud
computing on their business. While considering switching over to
cloud, consumers must have a clear understanding of unique
benefits and risks associated with it. Large technology companies
are already investing millions of dollars in building infrastructure,
services, tools and applications to facilitate cloud computing for
consumers, organizations and businesses to use and take
advantage. It remains to be seen how cloud computing will impact
the healthcare business since it is very diverse, complex and
unique and presents several challenges such as protecting members
health records in addition to following HIPAA guidelines set by
federal compliance regulations. In addition to these the rising cost
of healthcare solutions is another major concern. Efforts are being
made to reduce these costs for consumers and IT will play a big
role he aim is to provide an alternative and efficient method to help
enterprise information in achieving it and also improving clinical
and quality outcomes for patients. It will be very interesting to see
how cloud computing will address and contribute towards these
issues in the healthcare industry. The purpose of this paper is to
explore the current state and trends of cloud computing in
healthcare.
ABSTRACT
Data Centre Virtualization for Healthcare The rapid adoption
of electronic health records: EMR, HIS, PACS, and other
advanced clinical applications are creating a critical need for
more data storage, resulting in the expansion of the range of
healthcare services, and increased IT spending. Cloud
technology provides the answer by ensuring that users have
access to the data and applications they need on demand and
from any location. These new advancements in cloud
technology are fundamentally changing the way healthcare
providers operate their technological infrastructure. They are
realizing the benefits of adopting cloud technology, instead of
owning and maintaining huge data centers that need massive
investments in technology and human resources. Concerns
about patient data confidentiality and security issues are also
weighing down heavily on the adoption of cloud technology.
DISCUSSION
CONCLUSION
There is an ongoing debate within healthcare as to the viability
of cloud-based solutions given the need for patient privacy and
sensitive personal information. In considering cloud computing
for health care organizations, systems must be adaptable to
various departmental needs and organizational sizes.
Cloud computing for healthcare will need to have the highest
level of availability and offer the highest level of security in
order to gain acceptance in the marketplace. Hence there might
be a need to create a 'Healthcare-specific Cloud' that
specifically addresses the security and availability requirements
for healthcare. Many regions in the US and other developed
countries are establishing health information exchanges (HIEs),
which are cloud-based information clearing houses where
information can be more easily shared between hospitals, health
systems.

INTRODUCTION
Cloud computing is an approach that offers tremendous economic
benefits, and helps in faster deployment services. It makes use of
cloud solutions enabling storing and sharing large data files
involved in medical imaging. This saves hospitals, physicians and
other organizations in health care costs thus boosting speed and
efficiency. The demand to reach, engage and manage millions of
individual end-customers calls for more powerful systems. The
healthcare industry has traditionally been considered to be a slow
adopter of technology. Healthcare is a dynamic complex
environment with many participants including patients, nurses, lab
technicians, researchers, receptionists, and IT professionals.
Recently, the Health Information Technology for Economic and
Clinical Health (HITECH) Act is established to convert nation’s
health care records to digital formats such as Electronic Health
Record (EHR) to improve rapid transmission of medical
information and making health care systems more efficient. To
protect patient information from unauthorized access and comply
with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability (HIPAA)
privacy and security rules, health care organizations need global
policies for access to patient information. Access control of data
should be flexible and fine grained depending on the dynamic
nature of the health care system as multiple entities will interact
with the data. Access rights to resources must be granted to users
only for the amount of time that is necessary. Healthcare is moving
to a digital platform, becoming patient centered and data driven.
Cloud computing is a new IT approach that offers new economic
benefits, rapid deployment of services and tight IT alignment with
business goals. By using a cloud solution for storing and sharing
large data files involved in medical imaging saves hospitals,
physicians and other organizations in health care costs while
boosting speed and efficiency.
