- 14. Inca´s Challenge at its Finest DAY 1 INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT/ LIMA -/-/- Welcome to Peru! After the arrival to Jorge Chavez International Airport in Lima City, our tour guide will welcome you and in private tourist transportation you will go to your hotel. Lima also known as “The City of Kings” and since 2006 “Gastronomic Capital of America”, it is a historic, fun and gourmet city. Stay overnight at designated hotel. DAY 3 CUSCO / SALCANTAY LODGE B / L / D Breakfast at the designated hotel. After breakfast, a representative will pick us up from the hotel to start the Inca Challenge. On the way, we will take a short break to visit Incas de Tarawasi Ruins, near Limatambo ( approximately 1.5 hours from Cusco). After, leave Limatambo, we will go to the beautiful town of Mollepata, where will stop to drink coffee before we go up a highway of mountains to Marcoccasa. Here we will begin a walk to Soraypampa upon an old route called “Royal Road”. This is a good opportunity to get used to the weather, while we enjoy a beautiful walk of six hours. Finally, we will go to SALCANTAY LODGE that has its name in honor to an imposing pinnacle located in Salkantay Valley, it has the second place of the most sacred pinnacle in Inca mythology and the tallest in the area. The tour guide will give us an informative talk next to the fireplace, then some appetizer and dinner. Stay overnight at SALCANTAY LODGE. DAY 4 HUMANTAY LAKE B / L / D Breakfast at SALCANTAY LODGE. Early in the morning, we will take an acclimation walk around Humantay Lake that is feed by hanging glaciers of Humantay Mountain. The walk is optional, but the view is amazing and the brave ones can take a bath in the Lake! Lunch at SALCANTAY LODGE. DAY 2 LIMA / CUSCO B / - / D Breakfast at designated hotel. After breakfast, we will go to Jorge Chavez International Airport to take a plane that will take us to the wonderful Cusco city, capital of the Inca Empire known as “The Navel of the World”. Nowadays, Cusco is the Archeological Capital of America, and it could join harmony, in a urban environment, Pre- Columbian monuments and amazing archeological Inca ruins. - 15. DAY 5 CROSSING “EL PASO DE SALCANTAY” B / L / D Breakfast at SALCANTAY LODGE. This is the big day! After breakfast, we will begin a walk through Rio Blanco valley, surrounding Humantay in front of Salkantay. The highest part of the walk is El Paso de Salkantay at 4.638 meters. In “El paso” we will stop to enjoy the view of snowy pinnacles of Vilcabamba Mountains and the amazing Salkantay glacier that arises above us. Luckily, we could see the famous Andean condors, they are often seen in this area. Lunch served in route. Finally, we will go down to WAYRA LODGE, our destination at night. Dinner and stay overnight at WAYRA LODGE. DAY 6 GO DOWN TO CLOUDY FOREST B / L / D Breakfast at WAYRA LODGE. After breakfast, we will continue our descent to the left side of Salkantay River through a green landscape. We can feel the hot air that raises from the jungle, with colorful butterflies and orchids. We arrive to COLPA LODGE where they will welcome us with a traditional Pachamanca, a traditional Andean – Peruvian food, made of beef and vegetables put on hot stones and then cover them to cook. COLPA LODGE is located in an opened tableland in confluence with three rivers; this Lodge has an outdoor hot tub with a great panoramic view of the green mountains. Free afternoon to relax and perfect to explore the near orchids path. Dinner and stay overnight at COLPA LODGE. DAY 7 VALLEY OF SANTA TERESA RIVER B / L / D Breakfast at COLPA LODGE. Early in the morning, we will walk along the valley of Santa Teresa River through rural areas. We will walk through banana, avocado orchards and coffee plantation (famous for being one of the best organic coffee in the world). Lunch served next to Santa Teresa River. After lunch, we will walk for an hour before getting on a private transportation that will take us to “Llactapata Inca Trail”. Then, going through the renovated Inca Road, we will go to LUCMA LODGE; it is located in an avocado orchard. Dinner and stay overnight at LUCMA LODGE. Early in the morning , we will go up to Llactapata (2736 meters) for 2-3 hours where we will discover an amazing view of Machu Picchu Sanctuary from south east. We will have a short break to explore Llactapata ruins that have just been restored. Lunch is served in an observation deck, with view to the great and mystic Machu Picchu Citadel. Then, we will begin our descent to Aobamba River through bamboo forests, orchards and coffee plantations. Then, we will take a train to Aguas Calientes town in Machu Picchu. When we arrive, we check in at our lovely hotel to have a celebration dinner with our tour guide and to listen to a last informative talk. Stay overnight at the designated Hotel. DAY 9 MACHU PICCHU SANCTUARY B / L / - Breakfast at the designated hotel. After breakfast, we will go to the bus station to go to Machu Picchu Sanctuary. We arrive to Machu Picchu Sanctuary!!!
