John Iacuone, M.D., M.B.A., F.A.A.P. 6138 Monticello Avenue Dallas, Texas 75214 Cell: 505-220-9973 [email protected] EXECUTIVE RESUME Doctor Iacuone is a senior executive with extensive experience in all aspects of healthcare. He has more than 29 years experience in private practice of both general practice and specialty practice in Hematology-Oncology. He has more than 20 years of academic experience as an adjunct professor in Hematology-Oncology at a major medical school in Texas, and as the only Principal Investigator for the Children’s Oncology group NCI grant for West Texas until his retirement from practice in 2006. Dr. Iacuone served during this tenure as Chief of Staff and as Chief Medical Officer for more than 10 years while practicing at Covenant Health System. Dr. Iacuone then pursued and achieved an M.B.A. at Texas Tech University matriculating Magna Cum Laude in 2007. Dr. Iacuone transitioned from practice to the full time Executive Director, CMO of a 100 bed Children’s Hospital and manager of an employed fifty-provider specialty group. Four years later Dr. Iacuone transitioned into the adult healthcare world in the payer space as CMO of a 250,000+-health plan providing Medicaid, Medicare Advantage and Commercial plans for the next four years. In addition, he was asked to serve as the CMO for the systems 5 acute care hospitals in addition to his duties at the health plan. In February of 2014 Dr. Iacuone was recruited and accepted a position to become the Chief Clinical Office of a new provider owned company, providing comprehensive, value based oncology services to payers and patients who are experiencing exponential rises in cancer care costs. Dr. Iacuone, as President and Chief Clinical Officer is responsible for the overall success of Vantage Care Cancer Network, including developing oncology specific intellectual property tools, establishing networks of providers, quality metrics, and financial targets. After only 2 years McKesson purchased VCCN in March 2016, Dr. Iacuone will remain in his current position now at McKesson Specialty Health. In summary, Dr. Iacuone brings a 360 degree view of how healthcare dollars flow through our complex healthcare system, that uniquely positions him to participate in changing the paradigm in how those dollars are distributed to provide value to consumers, provider and payers for our nations healthcare
- 2. ACCOMPLISMENTS 3/2014- 1/2017 PRESIDENT & CHIEF CLINICAL OFFICER, VANTAGE CANCER CARE NETWORK, VANTAGE ONCOLOGY NOW IN SAME POSITION AT MCKESSON SPECIALTY HEALTH WHO ACQUIRED VCCN 3/2016. RESPONSIBLE FOR IDENTIFYING, DEVELOPMENT NEW MARKETS, ALL CLINICAL RELATED ACTIVITIES TO ACHIEVE VALUE BASED CONTRACTS WITH PAYERS GROWING VCCN INTO A NATIONAL LEADER IN SPECIALTY ACO CANCER MANAGEMENT. • Lead a team that developed a oncology specific population analytic tool to determine opportunity for a payer to provide value and our providers to manage risk-bearing contract and are developing a oncology specific symptom care coordination tools, and infrastructure to operationalize our risk contracts. We have developed three intellectual property specific tools that will be marketable to providers and health plans. • Has negotiated value-based contracts with payers for total cost of cancer care. • Identified and contracted with core medical groups and established ACO medical directors in each region to lead the value based effort. • Identified several companies as potential investments for VCCN that have developed proprietary products that could help VCCN execute utilizing proprietary products of our risk based contracts for attributed cancer lives. • Lead a team to develop network criteria, bonus metrics and provider manual for membership in IPA • Lead a team to establish achievable intervention metrics to reduce over all cancer care spend for payers and patients • Leading a team to establish a first to market specialty specific dashboard to select high performing providers for the ACO and performance to monitor key performance indicators in near real time to achieve contracted cost and quality targets. Agreement FUNCTIONS, AND NETWORK CONTRACTING • Initiated a cost containment strategy utilizing narrowing networks and capitation with provider resulting in >$9M in actual reduction in spends in one year • Lead an initiative with our pharmacy team reducing our Part B medical spend by $8M by adding new automation tools, re-negotiating vendor and pharmacy contracts, establishing narrow networks • Negotiated capitated contract for complex imaging, cardiology, radiation therapy that result in a $5M savings • Lead a team that has contracted with >300 providers with >3000 membership for a quality performance payment program including HCC, HEDIS measures for Medicare Advantage members. • Established a first ever physician advisory committee for the health plan to improve payment efficiency to providers, quality outcomes and communication during transitions of care and new initiative from the community physicians. • Co-Chaired the re-admission reduction quality initiative for Heart Failure, Acute Myocardial Infarct, and Pneumonia resulting in all Lovelace Hospitals exceeding CMS requirement avoiding over $2M in potential penalties. • As CMO of the Lovelace Hospitals lead the implementation, and education of the medical staff for ICD-10 coding. • Initiated and established a new VP for Case Management at the system level resulting in a system wide integration and standardization of Care Management practice, policies and procedures to reduce variation and improve quality outcomes, and patient satisfaction. 7/2006-1/2011 EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AND CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER, CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL OF SW FLORIDA, FT. MYERS, FL RESPONSIBLE FOR FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE, PHILANTHROPY, GROWTH OF SERVICE LINES, AND MANAGEMENT FOR THE EMPLOYED SPECIALTY MEDICAL GROUPS GROWTH AND PERFORMANCE • Lead our executive team to turn around a $1.5M loss in 2006 to a profitable service line in 2007 with continuous financial performance resulting in $18M net revenue in 2011 • Successful recruitment of pediatric sub-specialist s resulting in 4 new service lines in nephrology, endocrinology, psychiatry, and neurology and doubling the size of employed specialists bottom line performance of $8.3M to the hospitals performance in 2010 • In response to constant bed shortage, Dr. Iacuone worked with the VP of Nursing and Six Sigma team to integrate our medical team into the process. This effort resulted in a $4.3M operating expense reduction and a $13,5 capital expenditure. This integration of the medical staff in our process resulted in our
- 4. recognition and presentation at the National Association of Children’s Hospitals in 2009 • Dr. Iacuone lead an initiative resulting in the establishment of a specialty clinic in our neighboring county establishing better access to care and increased market share that opened supported by both employed and independent specialist in 2011. • Dr. Iacuone implemented the first pediatric hospitalist program and the only employed model in the Lee Memorial Hospital System resulting in acceptance by community physicians allowing our hospitalist team manage 100% admissions, including newborns in less than 6 months after implementation of the program. • Dr. Iacuone lead teams that received grants totaling more than $1.5M during his tenure, and as the spokes person for the children’s hospital led an effort to build a new $220M children’s hospital that has broken ground for construction in 2014 7/1977-6/2006 CLINICAL PRACTICE OF PEDIATRICS AND PEDIATRIC HEMATOLOGY, ADJUNCT PROFESSOR DEPARTMENT OF PEDIATRICS, TEXAS TECH UNIVERSITY, PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR CHILDREN’S ONCOLOGY GROUP, CMO OF COVENANT CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL DR. Managed over 4000 active patients throughout career • Managed federal, pharmaceutical, and academic grants as principal investigator publishing in peer review articles and authoring chapters in medical textbooks • Lead a coalition of community physicians in the creation of a 77 bed specialty children’s hospital, one of only five in Texas. • As CMO provided support for the development of the 1st Pediatric Trauma Center in Texas, 3rd in US certified by the American College of Surgeons. • As CMO added 3 new service lines in Pediatric Neurosurgery, Gastroenterology, and Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery at Covenant Children’s Hospital.
