Many Women and girls in the developing
countries are denied opportunities
for education.
Lack of education limits prospects, decreases
family income, reduces health, puts women and girls
at risk of trafficking and exploitation, and limits the
economic advancement of entire countries.
PROBLEM OF
EDUCATON
Continuation...
Gujarat fares poorly, ranking 20th
among 21 states in girl education.
India’s female literacy rate is 65.46 percent,
significantly lower than the world average
of 79.7 percent.
Women make up more than two-thirds of the world's
796 million illiterate people.
According to global statistics, just 39 percent of rural
girls attend secondary school.
This is far fewer than rural boys (45 percent), urban girls
(59 percent) and urban boys (60 percent).
Female unemployment rates are still
high in most countries, especially in the
developing world.
PROBLEM RELATED
TO UNEMPLOYEMENT
Women are considered weaker sex by most employers,
therefore, will always overlook them for men.
The high unemployment rate among women is
mainly because of the perception of women, culture,
and tradition.
Continuation...
In most countries, Men's average wages are higher than women, in both rural
and urban areas. Rural women work longer hours than men.
In rural Gujarat, the female work
participation rate fell from 43 per cent in
2005 to 32 per cent in 2010, worsening
further to 28 per cent in 2011-12. Urban
Gujarat, too, saw a steady but marginal
decline.
In India, jobs for men increased by 0.9 million,
2.4 million women reduced in the employment map,
At the end of 2017.
Within South Asia in 2013, India had the lowest rate of female
employment after Pakistan.
Eve teasing problem is faced by women all over
the world.
It is a sort of harassment involves nonverbal,
verbal, physical, or visual attention, intimidation
that is unwelcome and unwanted.
Eve teasing is a common problem in South Asia
in public areas.
The laws have also failed to stop this problem.
PROBLEM OF
EVE-TEASING
Continuation...
VIDEO
Eve teasing Incidents have caused clashes between
communities in Anand (2016) and Porbandar (2017).
A dalit yoth was killed in April 2018 due to eve
teasing reports.
Reported from all parts of India, states such as UP,
Bihar, Punjab, Haryana and all major
and small towns.
Most commonly reported from countries such as Vietnam,
Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal.
In more than 10 countries around the world, The
marital custom of dowry is widely practiced.
A dowry is a transfer of wealth from the bride’s
family to the groom’s family
It is practiced among many cultures through out
South Asia. It is mainly practiced among Hindus,
Muslims, Sikhs, and Jains.
In almost all cases, the practice directly or
indirectly oppresses women, it leads to abuse and
violence.
PROBLEM OF
DOWRY SYSTEM
Continuation...
Though dowry system isn’t as rampant in
Gujarat as compared to other states, Gujarat
ranked 15th among 29 Indian states, report in
2016.As of 2018, there are still dowry deaths and
cases reported from all over Gujarat.
About 8,000 dowry deaths are recorded each year in India,
according to the national crimes statistics bureau.
24,771 dowry deaths reported in last 3 years: as per Govt statistics
As of 2018, dowry related deaths are on a rise around the country.
It has been illegal in India since 1961 but remains common.
In South Asia it still exists in Nepal, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Also reported from other countries in ceertain parts of Europe, South America, African
tribals.
Gender inequality is a situation when women and
men are not equal.
Measures of gender equality include access to basic
education, health and life expectancy, equality of
economic opportunity, and political empowerment.
Women lag behind men in many areas, such as
education, labor market opportunities and political
representation and in salary.
PROBLEM OF GENDER
INQUALITY/BIAS
Continuation...
Gender Ratio In Gujarat Much Below National
Average. According to 2016 survey.
Gujarat topped the ‘most deteriorated’ category of
states that had the most alarming decrease in the Sex
Ratio at Birth.
In Gujarat, the sex ratio at birth fell from 907 to 854
In 2016, India ranked 130 out of 146 in the Gender Inequality Index
released by the UNDP.
India's gender inequality has led to millions of unwanted girls.
Gender inequality still exists globally despite national and international measures
that have been taken towards gender equality.
The degree and causes of gender inequality vary throughout the world.
Technology back in 1970’s was introduced which
allowed doctors to detect genetic abnormalities.
This technology is now being misused to allow those doctors
to determine the sex of the fetus and allow those doctors to
preform abortions on female fetuses.
Female foeticide or abortion is a big social problem
mainly because of “traditional thoughts” of our society.
Illegal abortion of the female foetus is done due to family pressure from
in-laws, husband or the woman’s parents, and the reasons for this are
preference of son, girls being considered as a burden.
PROBLEM OF
FEMALE ABORTION
Continuation...
In 2005-06, then Gujarat CM Narendra Modi started the ‘Beti Bachao’ campaign.
But still until this day it is an unsolved problem.
A report brought Gujarat's poor efforts to save female children in 2015.
In 2016, the then CM of Gujarat , Anandiben Patel broke down when female
foeticide issue was highlighted by a young girl at a function.
2011 census data and occasional sting operations by health activists revealed that
disclosure of gender and selective female foeticide continues in the country,
particularly in urban areas of northern and western states.
India witnesses one of the highest female abortions incidents in the world: study
in 2016.
India ranks 4th in global female infanticide, on top of the 12-country list
According to an article.
The first ever global study stated that female infanticide for son preference due to
variety of reasons is a worldwide phenomenon with 1.5 million female foetuses
being aborted every year.
No country has been able to reverse child sex ratio at birth in favour of the girls
despite adoption of a number of laws and schemes.
Around the world, sexual abuse/abduction/assault /
violent crimes againt woman is something which is
hapenning everyday, affecting close to a billion
women and girls over their lifetimes.
Gender-based violence, including sexual violence, is
being faced by women in epidemic proportions.
If it were a medical disease, sexual violence would
have had serious attention and the funding to address
it from governments and large institutions.
PROBLEM OF SEXUAL
ASSAULT/VIOLENCE
Continuation...
Girls in Gujarat record highest incidences
of ‘sexual abuse’ over 63% girls in Gujarat
have reported sexual abuse which is highest
in the country. According to an article in 2014.
As of 2018, it is being reported in many cities
at an alarming rate.
It is a problem which is faced by women all over
India in almost every state and this issue has been
highlighted and severly critisized in the
international media as well.
Sexual violence is increasing day by day as of
2018 even though there is severe punishment but
offenders still manage to escape.
Global statistics of sexual violence against women
is alarming. It is a major problem in almost every
country but largely reported in Latin, South
America, Central & South East Asia and Africa
and some parts of Europe.
Acid attacks are fast becoming a weapon of
choice for many offenders with women often in
mind. In some parts of the world, it’s happening
weekly.
Acid Attacks that melt the faces off victims in an
instant are on the rise globally.
The attacks are particularly common in South
Asia, where male attackers use the weapon to
disfigure women as a form of punishment or
control.
PROBLEM OF
ACID ATTACKS
Continuation...
VIDEO
Gujarat ranked 5th in acid attacks:
Rahul Gandhi questioned PM Modi in 2018
Acid attacks are reported from Valsad,
Vadodara, Mehsana,Navsari and many other cities as
of 2018
As per reports: An Assailant scaled walls of women’s
hostel in UP and poured chemical on to 35-year-old mother
There are 250 to 300 acid attacks reported in India every year,
despite laws restricting the sale of acid or other deadly
chemicals.
In 2016, India recorded 300 attacks but many go unreported,
so the actual number could exceed 1,000, according to Acid
Survivors
UK has one of highest rates of acid attacks in the world, police reveal.
Apart from UK, France, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Cambodia and
other places where these attacks are reported frequently.
Human trafficking is a multi-billion dollar enterprise, and
it’s one of the fastest-growing illicit industries in the world.
It involves exploitation which comes in many forms, including:
forcing victims into prostitution, subjecting victims to slavery, etc.
71% of trafficking victims around the world, victims of exploitation
are mostly women and girls.
In some parts of the world, women trafficking women is the norm.
Trafficking involves labor exploitation, trafficking for tissue, cells and
organs, people smuggling, etc.
An estimated 40.3 million victims are trapped in modern-day slavery.
PROBLEM OF
WOMAN TRAFFICKING
Continuation...
Every day 18 women go missing from state:
Gujarat assembly as of 2018
In the past two years, 13,574 women went missing
from the State. Though around 10,479 women were
either found or returned
Almost 20,000 women were trafficked in India in 2016.
In 2017, Over 1.25 lakh cases in India in the past year.
South Asia, with India at its center, is one of the fastest-growing regions for
human trafficking in the world.
Maharashtra, where India’s business capital Mumbai is located, showed the
second highest number of trafficked women.
According to the U.S. State Department, 600,000 to 800,000 people are trafficked across international
borders every year.
UNICEF estimates that there are around 21 million trafficked people around the world. The primary
victims are women and girls.
Grant: political, social, and economical power to women.
Women were being neglected in the past and still being, as
of today.
Women are equally important and contribute at least as
much we men do.
It is a thinking that we need to DEVELOP, that women
should NOT be under the control of men.
Women should be provided equal opportunities.
