MULTIMEDIA AND APPLICATIONS
HARDWARE
• The Hardware refers to set of all the physical devices
attached to computer.
• The multimedia project requires :
• High speed Processor.
• High volume of random access memory and huge
storage volumes.
• Various input and output devices like Large screen
to display, high resolution printers, scanners, optical
mouse, touch screen, speaker, card readers etc.
INPUT DEVICES
• Input devices are peripherals used to provide data
and control signals to a computer.
• The devices which are used to supply input to
computer are known as input devices
• Input devices allow us to enter raw data for
processing.
• Computer Input devices acts as a medium of
communication and correspondence between
computer and the outside world.
• A wide variety of input devices are used to create and
present multimedia projects.
• The input devices includes:
• Keyboard.
• Mouse.
• Optical Mouse.
• Microphone.
• Trackball.
• Touch Screen.
• Light Pen.
• Scanners.
• OCR systems.
• Digital Cameras.
KEYBOARD
• Keyboard is the most common and popular input device. A
standard 104 keys keyboard is most commonly used keyboard.
• Numeric keys.
• Character keys.
• Special keys.
• Function keys
MOUSE
• A mouse is a pointing device which is used to supply
input through its graphical representations called
cursor.
• The main goal of any mouse is to translate the motion
of your hand into signals that the computer can use.
TOUCH SCREEN
• It is a special input device , which only needs a
finger touch to supply input to the system.
• Touch screens are the monitors with a special
pressure sensitive screen that detects the touch of a
finger on a particular point on screen.
• Various technologies are used to detect the finger
touch on screen.
• Some touch screens are pressure sensitive which detect the amount
of pressure applied on a particular area of screen
• Simply, touching and lifting the finger generates the action of single
mouse click.
• Touching the screen twice, after a short interval generates the action
of mouse double click and touching and moving finger without lifting
it, generates the action of mouse drag.
MICROPHONE
• Microphone is an input device that used to
transfer sound inputs to the computer (electrical
signals) .
• As more and more people has started using
computers for listening or recording music,
chatting and teleconferencing, microphone is one
of most.
SCANNERS:
• Scanners are input devices of the computer system.
• Scanner is an input device, which works more like a photocopy
machine.
• It is used when some information is available on paper and it is
to be transferred to the hard disk of the computer for further
manipulation.
• .
• The light and optical sensor reads information
about one line of the image at a time.
• Scanner captures images from the source which
are then converted into a digital form that can be
stored on the disk. These images can be edited
before they are printed.
OPTICAL CHARACTER
RECOGNITION(OCR):
• OCR stands for Optical Character Recognition. It is a
widespread technology to recognize text inside
images, such as scanned documents and photos.
• OCR technology is used to convert virtually any kind
of images containing written text (typed, handwritten
or printed) into machine-readable text data.
• OCR additionally works like a scanner which can
check documents, pictures, images, hand
composed content and furthermore can store in
memory.
