Project Transition Tool – Copy Free Transition (CFT)
Summary Transition is a Netapp propriety tool which allows customers to transition Netapp 7mode data
storage to Netapp Cluster mode data storage to leverage Netapp scale out features. The tool
guides customers through the transition process. The transition workflow consists of 3 phases:

 Preparation phase: Gathers information of 7mode system and checks for feasibility of
performing transition
 Import Phase: Imports the entire configuration from the 7Mode and 7mode disks are
attached to Cluster mode filer.
 Export and commit Phase: All the imported configurations are transferred to Cluster
mode filer.
Role Centralized Library Developer and Automation Developer
Responsibilities
 Communicating with Centralized Library team about the design of the required Library for the tool.
 Giving TOI sessions to partner teams.
 Assisting partner teams in the development of the automation scripts using the Library developed by me.
 Involved in incremental changes in the Library as and when there is a change in GUI of the tool.
 Communicating with different internal sub-teams involved in project to drive testing and automation efforts.
 Performing Automation reviews of the scripts within the team.
 Preparing Test setup like installing Data ONTAP on filers, configuring data protocols, etc. to execute manual
tests.
 Creating Testsuite for developed scripts.

 Data Copy Phase: Performs the baseline copy of the data from 7mode data storage to
clustered data storage.
 Cutover phase: Performs final data copy and applies all 7mode configurations on
clustered data storage
Responsibilities
 Communicated with Centralized Library team about the design of the required Library for the tool.
 Gave TOI sessions to partner teams.
 Assisted partner teams in the development of the automation scripts using the Library developed by me.

performed by them before delivering the tool to QA.

Project Transition Tool – Golden Configuration
Summary It is basically a Setup Script where 95% of Netapp customers will be configuring on 7Mode filer. It
covers all WAFL, NFS, NameService and CIFS configurations. This script is used by most of the
partner teams in the Netapp.
