Azure intelligently assigns and controls the resources within each region to ensure workloads are properly balanced. A few examples of regions are Canada Central, West US, West Europe, Azure Geography Azure divides the world into geographies mainly defined by country borders. An Azure geography is an area containing two or more regions that preserve data residency and compliance boundaries. This allows for the replication of resources (such as virtual machine storage) across a geography. If a region in a pair was affected by a natural disaster then services would automatically fail over to other region in region pair.
