- 1. CHILEAN CATHOLIC CHURCH SHOULD SPEND ITS MONEY IN HELPING PEOPLE INSTEAD OF REBUILDING ITS CHURCHES. Most of the people is aware of the fact that Catholic church had a great power and richness. Nowadays, the Catholic Church does not have the same power, although it still keeps part of its fortune, which is used to keep the priests, nuns and churches. But is that more important than helping people? This year, owing to the earthquake, many of the churches were destroyed and obviously the church wants to rebuild them. An important part of the Chilean population (almost a 50%) is Catholic, so reconstruction of churches is a very important issue. However, due to the earthquake as well, many people lost their houses, and also, something that could be as important as a home; schools. Many of them were destroyed, the same as the churches. The Catholic institution would help a lot more rebuilding houses and schools before than churches. An important topic is that the main leaders of the Catholic Church live surrounded by luxurious things such as big cars and expensive houses, whereas many of the priests live without luxury and talk about humbleness. It seems the Catholic Church wants to keep its power through its money. But the church should act according to its principles and invest its money in people. Catholic Church should walk the walk instead of talking the talk. Another fact which is completely relevant and, at the same time sad, is that poor people are the ones who trust, give and work the most for the church. However, poor people are the ones who recieve the less from it. Which is worst, these people are the most affected by the last earthquake so it is a church’s duty to help these people. The reconstruction of the churches is an important issue, many people agree with that statement, because churches are their spiritual home. However, this home is not necessarily a material place, it could be any place. Whereas a house and a school need to be material places, they need to be real, and the Chilean Catholic Church should help this part of the reconstruction.
