YFS started in April 2007 to create a platform to help those who want to
contribute to society
Aims to make volunteering as a movement
Attracted over 5000 volunteers in 5 years.
                                                                            2
Mainly focuses on Health, Education and Environment related issues in the
REALITY CHECK – EDUCATION & HEALTH

Only 58% of people in rural India Only 11% of the population has any
are literate, and only 46% of rural form of health insurance coverage.
women are literate.
                                      Only 25% of India’s specialist
Nearly half of children enrolled in physicians reside in semi-urban
class 1 drop out before reaching areas, and a mere 3 % live in rural
7th standard. areas.
Around 82% of adolescent diseases in
                                      India are preventable.
Why focus on Environment?

 India imports 50,00,000 tons of paper waste from USA and Australia every
year! That’s the weight of 75,000 Boeing 737s!
 Only 6% of waste is recycled in India!
 India generates and consumes 175,000 MW of energy every year. Only 10%
   is got from renewable energy!
 Almost all rivers in India are polluted beyond stipulated norms
WHOSE RESPONSIBILITY?
