OBJECTIVES 
At the end of this Module, the learner 
should be able to: 
 define co-curricular activities; 
 enumerate the types of co-curricular 
activities; and 
 discuss the need and importance of co-curricular 
activities.
TYPES OF CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES 
Co-curricular activities can be categorized into following 
headings: 
 Literacy Activities 
 Physical Development Activities 
 Leisure Time Activities 
 Social Welfare Activities 
 Civic Development Activities
THERE ARE ACTIVITIES WHICH ARE INCLUDED IN EACH TYPE:

flowers, pleasure trips etc. 
• Cultural diversity 
Tableau, national songs etc 
• Language and expression 
Debates, discussion, symposium etc 
• Creativity 
• Participation in fine arts, floral, embroidery etc 
• Logic and Laws of Science 
Science exhibitions, e.g innovate new means of producing 
energy to meet the energy shortfalls
 Psychological Value 
• Emotional Health 
Sports develop spirit that Winning is not 
every thing but to play well is every thing

Sports and games help the student to 
build a strong physique.

The following points are considered in planning and 
organizing co-curricular activities 
•C hoose activities which are based on students interest. 
•O bjectives of the co-curricular activities must be made clear. 
•C ommittes may be formed to empower all student to participants. 
•U nravel the potentials of students to the maximum. 
•R emember to involve all the students in co-curricular activities. 
•R ules and regulations must be set in all the activities 
•I nculcate values in all the activities.
•C oordinate with different sectors to make the 
activities successful. 
•U nite all sectors of the school community to support 
the co-curricular activities. 
•L et the students plan, implement and evaluate the 
activities. 
•A ctivities should be organized during school hours. 
•R ecords should be kept for all the activities.
