- 2. $79,000 Project • This is a “Rain Water Harvesting Project done in a most drought prone area and poverty stricken area of District 3131. • The village Pingori and nearby four villages have a peculiar geographical situation. • They are surrounded from all sides by hills. • There is scarcity of even drinking water in that area. • In the whole Indian subcontinent the rain fall is only for four months. This is called monsoon.

- 12. Next Steps • During rainy season , local and eco friendly trees will be planted in trenches. The roots of the trees will increase the percolation many fold. • From the pond the water will be used by the farmer to irrigate his farm by drip irrigation. The farmers will also keep the trees alive by watering them through drip irrigation system. Each farmer will use drip irrigation system. This way the water is saved. • A special grass will be planted. This can feed the cattle. The farmers can have cattle as side business. • There is a recurring expenditure of paying electricity bills for pumps , and paying and appointing a person to look after. The farmers or beneficiaries have formed three micro credit groups. They will be responsible for maintain the systems.

- #3: The village Pingori and nearby four villages have a peculiar geographical situation. They are surrounded from all sides by hills. For eight months of the year , there is no water. The water cannot be brought from outside due to hills. A few village wells have water for nine months. This water is used by villagers turn by turn for irrigating their crops. In the last 3 -4 months the villagers have to entirely depend on water tanks even for drinking water. The service always is very erratic.
- #5: continuous contour trenches in almost eighty hecters of denuded hills. The rain water will be trapped in the trenches, percolate to the ground, increasing the subsoil water level. The wells in the villages will get water. By digging CCTs (continuous contour trenches ) in the hills, the ground water level increases, well water level increases, water is available for drinking and sanitation .
