Identify N-Tier Architecture System Components EBS enables thin client, web-enabled application access using the n-tier model of distributed computing in which three principle layers of architecture interact to allow seamless access to data in the Oracle enterprise database. The following diagram represents vertical technology stacking within the presentation, application and database tiers that would traditionally be found in an n-tier EBS 11i/12 environment. Communication between layers is managed through Oracle JDBC/SQLNET.ora configuration parameters which connect to the Oracle Application Server (OracleAS). OracleAS Web Listener communicates with Oracle HTTP Server using hypertext transport protocol for browser-enabled, thin client access to application data in the presentation layer. Oracle Enterprise Manager for GRID computing (OEM 10g) enables web-enabled access to manage ASM as well as the logical and physical structures of the enterprise database.

Identify External Configuration Components In addition to internal configuration of the EBS technology stack in the n-tier, EBS may also need to be configured to access other external applications in the enterprise architecture such as Oracle Internet Directory (OID) and Single Sign-On (SSO) used for external authentication services that may reside on other servers or in different ORACLE_HOME locations or to enable LDAP and Microsoft Active Directory. - 5. Evaluate EBS Critical Updates EBS is a robust development environment with approximately 120 fine-grained components which can selectively be used for development. In general, these components are brought forward and upgraded collectively within each new release of OracleAS though they may be tracked separately. The autoconfig utility interacts with the context file similar to the way the Opatch database utility interacts with lsinventory/orainventory to track installation of database patches. The autoconfig build utility makes it easier to track and manage EBS system releases and enhancements within the development environment.
