New Covenant
Jeremiah 31
 Before belief we were in a state of hostility to God, v 21
 Now we have been reconciled for a purpose, v 22
 Three possibilities
 Reconciled experientially – leads to loss of salvation, Arminian
 Reconciled positionally – leads to Lordship salvation, Calvinist
 Reconciled eschatologically – leads to the Bema, Biblicist
 Therefore, live with purpose, v 23
 Continuing the Doctrine of Reconciliation
 All one verse from verse 9 to 23.
 Before belief we are enemies of God and Christ
 Hostile = enemy
 “alienated” – ἀπαλλοτριωμενους, perf., pass., partic.
 A continual state that we are born into, Rom 5:12
 Ephesians 2:11-12, same word is “excluded”
 Enemies in our minds
 Disobey in our minds, Matthew 5
 Believe with our minds
 Bible study, prayer, “THINK on these things”
 Our deeds demonstrated our state of mind
 Romans 1:18-32, hostile mind does not deal in reality
 It becomes futile, and falls deeper into sin
 Can effect society
 Pagan societies fall into the Romans 1:26-27 trap
 We were enemies… BUT
 Romans 5:8
 Why would we then continue in sin?
 Live with purpose!
 “Now” is the first word showing the emphasis
 Reconciliation is made personally available through His
death
 Faith brings reconciliation to us personally
 Holy: set apart
 Blameless: like the spotless lamb of the OT, John 1:29
 ... how much more will the blood of Christ, who
through the eternal Spirit offered Himself WITHOUT
BLEMISH to God, cleanse your conscience from dead
works to serve the living God? Hebrews 9:14
 Do all things without grumbling or disputing; so that
you will prove yourselves to be BLAMELESS and
innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst
of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom
you appear as lights in the world, holding fast the word
of life, so that in the day of Christ I will have reason to
glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain.
Philippians 2:14-16
 “Now” is the first word showing the emphasis
 Reconciliation is made personally available through His
death
 Faith brings reconciliation to us personally
 Holy: set apart
 Blameless: like the spotless lamb of the OT, John 1:29
 Beyond reproach: unaccusable, like Daniel, Dan 6:4
 Elders and Deacons CANNOT be engaged in open, public
sin that could damage the Church, 1 Tim 3:10, Titus 1:6-7
 … in order TO PRESENT… παριστημι
 3 options of meaning
 “presented” experientially
 “presented” positionally
 “presented” eschatologically (in the future)
 Christ is presenting us as being literally holy,
blameless, and beyond reproach
 We do not sin anymore, we can be wholly sanctified in
this life
 Arminian, Wesleyan
 John 10:25-30 Believers have eternal life FOREVER
Dennis Rokser
 Our position in Christ is in view
 We are holy, blameless, and beyond reproach in God’s
eyes.
 Judicially declared righteous
 Leads to Lordship Salvation: John MacArthur
 The “P” in TULIP
 Believers will ALL be presented (stand) before Christ
The Bema, the Judgment Seat of Christ
 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ,
so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the
body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.
2 Corinthians 5:10
 But you, why do you judge your brother? Or you again, why
do you regard your brother with contempt? For we will all
STAND before the judgment seat of God.
Romans 14:10
 IF…
 There is no “if ” once we are saved. OSAS
 Eternally secure in God’s hand, John 10
 There is no “if ” in our position as a Believer.
 We are judicially perfect, no matter what
 We don’t persevere to “prove” we are saved
 Another possibility is “inasmuch”
 Level of obedience = level of reward, 1 Cor 3:10-15
 “Inasmuch” as you continue (present, active) in the
FAITH
 Firmly established (perfect, passive, participle)
 Steadfast: adjective describing “firmly established”
 Not moved away (present, passive, participle)
 Hope of the Gospel that you heard (aorist, i.e. past)
 Col 1:4, 6, 8, 12-14, 2:5, 10, 13, 3:3-4, 9-10, 12, 15, 23-24, 4:1, 9
 The Colossians are Believers whom Paul desires to live in
obedience because their reward awaits them!
 Colossians 3:23-25
 Therefore, LIVE WITH PURPOSE!
