This document provides an introduction to cloud computing. It defines cloud computing as IT services delivered on demand over the internet. Resources are pooled and accessed virtually, allowing for flexible scaling. The main advantages are reduced costs since users no longer need to maintain their own infrastructure, and pay only for what they use. Various cloud models are described including SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS. Careers in cloud computing involve roles in areas like provisioning, monitoring, security, virtualization, and software architecture.

Cloud computing is an umbrella term for internet-based computing resources that provide shared processing, data storage, software, and other services. It allows users to access applications and data from anywhere via simple web services. Key advantages include lower costs, improved performance, universal access to documents, easier collaboration, and unlimited storage. However, it requires a constant internet connection and features may be limited compared to desktop software. Data security and loss of access are also potential disadvantages.
The document provides an overview of modern cloud architecture. It discusses key cloud concepts like Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS). It also covers architectural considerations for cloud applications like multi-tenancy, load balancing, scaling, security, monitoring, and metering. Microservices architecture and containerization are introduced as approaches for building applications for the cloud. Data-intensive architectures like lambda architecture are also summarized.
Cloud computing provides on-demand access to shared computing resources like networks, servers, storage, applications and services available over the internet. It delivers hardware and software on an as-needed basis from a remote location. Key advantages include lower costs, improved collaboration and universal access to documents from any device with an internet connection. However, cloud computing also relies on a constant internet connection to function and data security in the cloud cannot be guaranteed.
IaaS provides on-demand, self-service access to computing resources like servers and storage. PaaS automates the deployment of applications on top of IaaS and handles scaling. SaaS delivers applications to users through a thin client like a web browser. iPaaS facilitates integration between SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, and on-premise systems through a cloud-based platform. Popular IaaS include OpenStack and VMware vSphere, PaaS include Cloud Foundry and OpenShift, while Salesforce and Office 365 are examples of SaaS.
Cloud computing is a model for enabling ubiquitous, convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction. Key characteristics of cloud computing include on-demand self-service, broad network access, resource pooling, rapid elasticity, and measured service. Common uses of cloud computing involve hosting applications and services through major cloud platforms like Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud.

Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in BusinessDr. Tathagat Varma
My talk for the Indian School of Business (ISB) Emerging Leaders Program Cohort 9. In this talk, I discussed key issues around adoption of GenAI in business - benefits, opportunities and limitations. I also discussed how my research on Theory of Cognitive Chasms helps address some of these issues
Artificial Intelligence is providing benefits in many areas of work within the heritage sector, from image analysis, to ideas generation, and new research tools. However, it is more critical than ever for people, with analogue intelligence, to ensure the integrity and ethical use of AI. Including real people can improve the use of AI by identifying potential biases, cross-checking results, refining workflows, and providing contextual relevance to AI-driven results.
News about the impact of AI often paints a rosy picture. In practice, there are many potential pitfalls. This presentation discusses these issues and looks at the role of analogue intelligence and analogue interfaces in providing the best results to our audiences. How do we deal with factually incorrect results? How do we get content generated that better reflects the diversity of our communities? What roles are there for physical, in-person experiences in the digital world?
