This document discusses using fuzzy logic to determine the optimal placement of a Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) to improve voltage stability on the IEEE 14 bus system. Load flow analysis was conducted on the system to calculate voltage profiles, line loadings, and a voltage stability index (L-index). A fuzzy interface system was developed using these as inputs and placement index as the output. Based on the rules and outputs, transmission line 13-14 received the highest placement index, indicating it as the optimal location for UPFC placement. Simulation results showed the UPFC placement at this line improved the voltage profile across the system. Therefore, this fuzzy logic approach provides an effective means for determining optimal FACTS device placement to enhance power system performance
