 Increase instructor’s presence
 Increase students’ presence
 Building online learning community
 University mission
 Enhance instruction
 Questions and answers
 Clarifying and reinforcing
 Exam review
 Fixed format: pre-designed questions for
    students and instructors
 Bulk of the syncsession time is devoted to
    answering those questions by students
 Students found it tedious (pasting answers)
 Instructors found it mechanical (copy and
    paste)
 No depth
 No dent on students’ learning
 Interactive and engaging
 To the point (What is the most important?)
 Social: sharing real nursing practice experience
    that is related to content
 Valuable for students (help them clarify
    questions and prep for exams)
 Students centered or led, instead of instructor
    centered
 Delivering the University mission
 Highlighting learning content
 Using graphics and charts
 List the most
    important/interesting/controvercial questions
    for discussions
 Tip: convert ppt files into jpeg images before
    loading them into Collaborate
 What do you want your students bring home?
 Focus on only a few critical questions or
    concepts
 Don’t cover all the questions (due to time
    restraint and our brain capacity)
 One or two fundamental thing to take away
 May ask students to take turns to prepare those
questions, instructor offer real time comments
 Each student pick a question and relate it to
    their work environment
 Sharing their real life experience that is related
    to the learning concepts
 Take turns, everybody has to share
 Apply concepts into real nursing practice
 Instructors share their own experience
 Clarifying and reinforcing
 Questions and answers
 If no questions from students, call students to
    answer questions….
 When students sweat, they learn! Or next time
    they will be more prepared!
 Provide sample questions to do exam review
 Look at the previous administered exams
results and identify the most challenging
    questions.
 Consider this scenario:

-Student: what is on the exam?
-Instructor: I don’t know. The lead instructor
    fixes the exam questions.
 A mix of all five models, use them at different
    times
 The best model is having no model at all
 It is up to you!
