MLCS is a new developmental math course being created by AMATYC to provide an alternative pathway to college algebra for non-STEM students. The course integrates numeracy, proportional reasoning, algebra, functions, statistics and geometry. It aims to develop students' mathematical maturity through problem solving, critical thinking, writing and communication. Upon completion, students will be prepared for a statistics course or general education math course. The course is more rigorous than beginning algebra to ensure students are ready for college-level math. It allows students to complete their developmental and college math requirements in one year. MLCS can replace beginning algebra or be used as a supplemental model in an emporium classroom.
