Indian Army is the land based branch
and the largest component of Indian
Armed Forces.
• Indian Army originated from the Armies of
the East India Company, eventually became
the British Indian Army and the armies of the
princely states, and it finally became the
National Army after Independence
The President of India is the Supreme Commander of the Indian
Army, and it is commanded by Chief of Army Staff(COAS), which
is a four-star General
Two officers have been conferred with the rank of field marshal, a five
star rank which is a ceremonial position of great honor.

AMAZING FACTS ABOUT INDIAN ARMY
 India has the biggest volunteer army in the world.
 India controls the highest battlefield in the world , The
Siachen Glacier , at 5000 meters above Mean Sea
Level(MSL).
 Indian soldiers are considered among the very best in high
altitude and mountain warfare.
 The Indian Army’s High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS) is
one of the most elite military training centers in the world
and is frequented by Special Ops teams from the US , UK
and Russia.

PULWAMA TERROR ATTACK
SUKMA ATTACK - 2018
On 13 march 2018, 9 CRPF personnel were killed and 6 others
were injured when Maoists blew up a mine-protected vehicle
with an IED in Sukma district, Chhattisgarh
The attack came almost 11 days after Indian security
personnel killed 10 alleged Naxalites in the forests of
Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on March 2
SUNJUWAN ATTACK-2018
• On 10 Feb 2018, at predawn, Jaish-e-
Mohammed Fidayeen attacked an Indian Army
Camp in Sunjuwan, Jammu and Kashmir
• 11 soldiers, 4 attackers and 1 civilian were killed
and 20
• This attack coincided with the death anniversary
of Afzal Guru, a convict in the 2001 Indian
Parliament Attack
