1 Components:
Web Logic and System components are the main part of the OBIEE. Figure below depicts the high level
architecture for Web Logic and System components.
1.1 Web Logic:
 Administration Server: [ORACLE_HOME]/user_projects/domains/bi/servers
 Managed Server: [ORACLE_HOME]/user_projects/domains/bi/servers
1.2 System Components:
 OBI Server: [ORACLE_HOME]/user_projects/domains/bi/servers/obis1/logs Presentation Server:
[ORACLE_HOME]/user_projects/domains/bi/servers/obips1/logs
 Catalog Manager: /ORACLE_HOME]/user_projects/domains/bi/servers/obips1/logs/catalogmanager

2 OBIEE Installation Prerequisites:
2.1 System Requirements& Sizing:
Table below depicts desired system requirementfor OBIEE 12c installation.
Disk Space 500GB or more(necessary for OBIEE)
RAM 16GB or more(Be necessary to view complex dashboards)
Temp Space 1150MB or more
Swap Space 3GB or more
Java 1.8
2.2 Database Requirements:
Oracle Database 12c
2.3 Installers Requirements:
1. Download and install JDK 1.8 from this link, the current release is JDK-8u65
2. Download and install the Web Logic server; installation will be covered in this post
fmw_12.2.1.0.0_infrastructure_Disk1_1of1.zip
3. Download and install Oracle Business Intelligence 12c (12.2.1.0.0) consisting of2 zip file
fmw_12.2.1.0.0_bi_windows64_Disk1_1of2.zip
fmw_12.2.1.0.0_bi_windows64_Disk1_2of2.zip

3 Infrastructure Setup
3.1 InfrastructureSetup guidelines
This section describesthe infrastructure set-up that is required before installation ofOBIEE 12c BI Platform. As a
part of infrastructure setup, we will need to Install Fusion Middleware 12c.
To accomplishthis, we need to firstdownload the executable jar file from the link
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-enterprise-edition/downloads/business-
intelligence-2717951.htmland extract it using windows command promptusing syntax as shown in the
figure below:
After initiating file extraction process in command prompt, following screen appears:

3.2 InfrastructureSetup Steps
After file extraction, Welcome installation screen for Oracle Fusion Middleware 12c will appear as shown in the
figure below:
Step 1: Welcome installation screen launches postfile extraction
Step 2: Click Next

Step 3: Specify the OBIEE location path
Step 4: Click Next
Step 5: Click Next

Step 6: Check the check-box
Step 7: Click YES
Step 8: Click Next

Step 9: Click Next
Step 10: SuccessfulInstallation ofOracle FusionMiddleware 12c infrastructure.

4 Setup BI Platform
4.1 OBIEE BI Setup Guidelines
OBIEE BI Platform can be set-up after successfully setting up BI infrastructure as defined in the previous
section. This section defines step by step process ofOBIEE BIPlatform setup and installation.
For installing the OBIEE BI platform, we need to download and extractthe BI Platform executable package from
the following path http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware
Figure below shows the zipped file / extracted file name and screen that appears after launching (double
clicking) the GUI extractor file.

After launching the application file (GUI selfextractor set-up file), Installation welcome page appears thatwill
have step by step navigation screen which will be used to install OBIEE BI Application. Nextsection covers step
by step process ofOBIEE BIinstallation

4.2 OBIEE BI Installation Steps
Step 1: After Installer page opens,click Next
Step 2: Click Next
Step 3: Specify the ORACLE_HOME Path as shown below

Step 4: Click Next
Step 5: Click Next

Step 6: Click Install
Step 7: Click Next
Step 8: Click Finish to complete installation ofBIPlatform

4.3 Configuring RCU
After successful installation of OBIEE BI platform, we need to configure RCU for which, GO TO following path:
D:OBIEE12CMiddlewareOracle_Homeoracle_commonbin where we will find the RCU setup file as shown
below:
4.4 Step by step process of Configuring RCU
Follow the step by step process as described below to successfully configure RCU and launch the BI
application.
Step 1: On launchingthe RCUsetup file, you will see the welcome page

Step 2: Click Next
Step 3: Provide databaseconnectiondetails

Step 4: Give the Database Connection Details
Step 5: Click Next

Step 6: Click Next
Step 7: Click Next

Step 8: Click finish to complete the setup
4.5 Step by step OBIEE Application configuration
After successful RCU configuration, follow the below mentioned steps to configure OBIEE application
Step 1: Go to bin folder
Go to bin folder using the path “D:OBIEE12CMiddlewareOracle_Homebibin” and click config.exe as
shown below:

Step 2: Click nexton Welcome Home Page
Step 3: Click next
Step 4: Provide username: we can rename the username

Step 5: Provide databasecredentials
Step 6: Provide portnumbers andclick next
Step 7: Choose Oracle sample application andclick next

Step 8: Click Next
Step 9: Click Next
Step 10: Click Next

Step 11: Login to your OBIEE environment
Step 14: Use welcome page to login
Step 15: Login to your BIenvironment

Step 16: Start building OBIEE Reports
