HISTORY
In 1875 for the first time Indian share
market first started functioning.The
first share trading association was
known as ‘Native share and stock
brokers association’ later it got renamed
as ‘Bombay Stock Exchange’.
MEANING
Capital market is a market where buyers
and sellers engage in trade of financial
securities like bonds,stocks,etc.
Capital market consists of Primary
market and Secondary market.
DIVISION OF MARKET
Indian market size has huge potential and it has
witnessed the entry of many players.
It is very difficult to measure the size of Indian
market but it can be broadly be classified into:
 Labour Market
 Money Market
 Commodity Market
 Capital Market
LABOUR MARKET
Labour market in India is one of the
cheapest in the world, it can be said as a
market for technical skills and physical
strength.
The work force of this market can be
seen in all the 3 sectors of the economy.
MONEY MARKET
 Money market in India deals with all
the aspects related to lending and
borrowing of funds, Indian money
market is connected to the foreign
exchange market.
COMMODITY MARKET
Commodity market comprises of
exchange of goods that is estimated in
terms of domestic currency.
Wholesale market and retail market are
the components of this market.
CAPITAL MARKET
Capital market deals with all the
financial assets of the country in this
market both private and public
companies can raise funds.
Capital market consists of many sub
markets like bond market, stock market,
loan market, etc.
COMPONENTS
The main components if Indian capital
market are:
 Bombay stock exchange
 National stock exchange
OTHER INFORMATION
 In India there are 22 stock exchanges out of
which 8 are permanent, 14 are temporary and
20 are cash markets out of which 3 are
derivate market and 4 currency market.
 There are 13000+ brokers working in capital
market who are registered under SEBI and 6
credit rating agencies.
