- 2. Politics Major social institution by which society e organizes decision making and distributes power and authority.
- 3. Power Power is an ability to control the behavior of others. Power is the capacity to participate effectively e in decision making process.
- 4. According to Max Weber Power is ability to achieve desire ends over the objection of others. We tend to think state power as an expression of an authority.
- 5. Types of authority Rational legal authority Traditional authority Charismatic authority
- 6. Rational legal authority According to Weber Rational legal authority is a power legitimized by rationally established law procedure return rules and regulation.
- 7. For example Government is one of the best example of this authority.
- 8. Traditional authority Power is legitimized by respect for long established cultural pattern and beliefs. Traditional authority is based on past customs.
- 9. For example Tribal leaders have always relied on traditional authority.
- 10. Charismatic authority Charismatic authority is based on a leaders personal qualities. The charismatic leader is seen as a person who inspire others by his unusual vision exceptional or even super national qualities.
- 12. Development To improve the quality of life of people.
- 13. Political Development Political development may be defined as an increasing political unity and broadening the base of political participation. In general when the people fully participate at input end and their capacity of political system increased.
- 14. Stages of Political Development According to Rustow there are almost five stages through which process of political development pass.
- 15. Traditional Stage When system is passing through the different values the people are not integrated politically the economics is backward people are not aware about political system and political values.
- 16. Drive to Maturity When political system struggles to political development and struggle to consensus over political system.
- 17. Take off Stage When political system are ready to political development process.
- 18. Mass Production Stage When political system rises to achieve the economic development. It means the system is producing large and consuming at large.
- 19. Past Mass Production When a country has gone beyond the mass production stage and they achieve the stage of development.
- 20. Characteristics of Political Development There are three important characteristics of political development. Equality Capacity Differentiation and specialization
- 21. Equality Equality involves the concept of equal and objective application of laws to all citizen I.e rule of law involving application of all laws to all the citizens.
- 22. Capacity It refers to the capacity of a political system to affect the social and economic life of society through its input.
- 23. Differentiation This aspect of development involves first of all the differentiation and specialization structure. Office and advances plan to have their distinct and limited functions and there is an equivalent of a division of labor within the realm of government.
