  Commmunity of HopeHousing Programs Community of Hope works to end homelessness for the families we serve in Washington, DC. Our Housing Programs work toward three main goals: housing stability, increasing income, and strengthening families. The three main housing program areas are:  Temporary Housing Programs  Home Now Permanent Supportive Housing Program  Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program Temporary Housing Programs Community of Hope operates two residential programs for families experiencing homelessness: a temporary shelter with twenty apartments at 1413 Girard Street, NW and a transitional housing program for ten families at Hope Apartments at 3715 2nd Street, SE. These two programs served a combined total of 52 families in 2010, representing 94 adults and 167 children. Of those exiting in 2010, 97% went to positive housing destinations. Permanent Supportive Housing Program Our permanent supportive housing program, Home Now, was launched in 2009. Home Now is based on a nationally successful model, housing first, which helps families experiencing homelessness move into and maintain permanent housing with supportive services. In 2010, Home Now served 113 families in scattered site apartments throughout the city with a housing stability success rate of 99%. Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program In 2009, Community of Hope received funds under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to start a Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP). HPRP provides short-term rental and utility assistance and case management to individuals and families who are at imminent risk of becoming homeless or are already homeless and need assistance to obtain housing. HPRP funds helped Community of Hope prevent homelessness for 56 families and individuals, and we have re-housed 52 families to date.   Program Outcomes HOUSING STABILITY:100% of households exiting Girard Street and 78% households exiting Hope Apartments went to positive permanent housing situations. Of the 113 families Home Now served in 2010, 99% remained stably housed. The Housing Specialist prevented 31 households from being evicted through her intervention. INCREASING INCOME: 24% of families who are working with HPRP case managers, 39% at Girard Street, 84% at Hope, and 13% in Home Now increased their income through gaining access to 2010 By The Numbers benefits and/or employment. 18% of adults at Girard Street and 11% at Hope Apartments gained full time employment. STRENGTHENING FAMILIES: 100% of households have remained intact; none of the households have had children removed by the Child and Family Services Agency. 47% of parents attended at least one parent-teacher conference. Through our new mentoring program, 66% of youth applicants had been matched with an adult mentor by the end of 2010.  Demographics We served a total of 279 families consisting of 286 adults and 414 children. 119 had a long term disability. 4 are U.S. military veterans. 264 have a history of domestic violence. 184 receive income, while 187 receive non-cash benefits including food stamps and Medicare.
