- 2. 1. GEOGRAPHY -It is located in the center of -3 rivers flow through Pamplona -It borders France -Southern areas of Pamplona are warm and dry while in the north the climate is cooler
- 3. • Pamplona is located in the middle of Navarre in a rounded valley, known as the Basin of Pamplona • It was an important city in trade roads
- 4. 2. HOW IS THE CITY LAID OUT? • The old town has a Roman origin, it comes from the camp established by Pompey over a vascona city called Irueña. • The plan of the old town is irregular and it is organized into three districts around the “Plaza del Castillo” • The plot is compact due to urban growth throughout history has tended to densify to maximize space. The traditional building is low. The nineteenth century houses are 4 or 5 floors high • In the XIX and XX centuries the first urban expansion ocurred but inside the walls. The first two widenings which adopted orthogonal plane were for the bourgeois • The construction of the station of the railroad in the north of the city in 1864 was very impotantant • Attached to the bourgeois widening, there is a neighborhood of chalets.
- 5. • The urban growth and urban sprawl took place especially from the sixties of the 20th century. • The city of Pamplona is not being beautified and there is not a process of gentrification

HISTORY AND DEVELOPMENT • In the winter of 75–74 BC, the area served as a camp for the Roman general Pompey in the war against Sertorius. • During the Germanic invasions of 409 and later as a result of Rechiar´s ravaging, Pamplona went through much disruption and destruction • From the 11th century, reviving economic development allowed Pamplona to recover its urban life. • After the 1512 conquest and annexation of Navarre to Spain, Pamplona remained as capital of the semi-autonomous kingdom of Navarre, which preserved its own (reformed) institutions and laws. • Pamplona passed the process of industrialization and modernization in the 20th century

ENVIRIOMENTAL ISSUES • Pollution is increasing an the limit of CO2 an ozone have been exceeded so it is starting to affect to people’s health • There is also an environmental setback given by the bet for processes of concealed incineration of residues. • The government of Navarre (where Pamplona is located) for managing the problems of air pollution is creating some limits for the amount of polluting substances like ozone in the air.
- 8. • Noise pollution is also being measured but a few things are being made to reduce pollution. Only some directives are regulating the noise of plains cars… • There is also a destruction of protected habitats by the administration
