Gender based violence
• Gender-based violence (GBV) is violence that is directed
against a person on the basis of gender (EIGA).
• GBV against women and girls is much higher than men and
boys in India like across the world
• In this presentation, the focus is on GBV against women
and girls- which interlock with violence based on other
identities
• Such violence may be perpetuated by men and women
What is access to justice?
Access to justice is defined as the ability
of women and girls who have faced GBV to seek
and obtain a remedy in keeping with human
rights standards through formal or (progressive)
informal institutions of justice
(USIP, n.d, parantheses added)
