Texting while driving has become a serious problem. It is a major distraction that takes a driver's eyes off the road for an average of 4.6 seconds at a time, the equivalent of driving the length of an entire football field blindfolded at 55 mph. Studies show texting increases the risk of a crash by 23 times. While some states have banned texting while driving, it continues to endanger lives and more needs to be done through education and enforcement to curb this unsafe behavior.
