INFECTION CONTROL COMMITTEE
• It is a multidisciplinary committee responsible for monitoring
programme policies information implementation and recommend
corrective actions.
• A hospital can appoint an epidemiologist or infectious disease specialist
or microbiologist to work as an infection control physician.
OBJECTIVES
• The objectives of infection control committee is to understand the:
• Basic infection control concept
• Causes of nosocomial infections
• Components of the infection control programmes
• How an infection control committee can decrease the incidence of
antimicrobial resistance.
COMPOSITION
• A chairperson- hospital director
• A chief infection control team- microbiology department
• A chief of all clinical departments
• A chief nurse
• Head of the maintenance and cleaning department
• Director of Central Sterile Supply department
FUNCTIONS
• Education & orientation programmes for professional staff
• Management of visitors in isolation circumstances
• Establishment & supervision of infection control team
• To maintain standard for hospital, domestic, cleaning & food
services & hygienic conditions
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Ensure to advice on infection prevention
• Formulating an infection prevention & control programmes
with health professionals
• Distribute the policies to relevant areas & initiate their
implementation by support, advice & education.
• Participate in the planning & upgrading of hospital facilities
RESEARCH & ETHICS COMMITTEE
• An ethics committee is a committee firmly designed to review &
approve the institution of clinical research study involving human
participants and to provide continue review of research study.
• Research and ethics committee is also called as independent ethical
committee
IMPORTANCE OF THE COMMITTEE
• No trail is conducted without the approval from the ethics committee,
every step needs to be approved
• No permission for admission without review of ethical committee
• To review the appropriate clinical protocol as well as the risks &
benefits of the study participants.
COMPOSITION
• Members should fairly 8-12 members
• A chairperson- should be from out of the institution
• 1-2 members from the basic medical science area
• 1-2 clinicians of various institutions
• One legal expert or retired judge
• One social scientist / representative of non-governmental
volunteer agency
• One philanthropist / ethist
• One lay person from the community
• A member of secretory- should be from the same institution
RESPONSIBILITIES
• To protect the dignity, rights & wellbeing of the subjects
• To assure the universal ethics values & international scientific
standards are expressed in terms of local community values
• To assist & develop education of research community response
to the local area requirements
