MEDICAL MINUTE: Window Safety: Each year in the United States, falls from windows account for an estimated 5,000 injuries, in some cases
death. Blank Children’s Hospital wants to remind anyone who watches infants and small children to be on guard for the potential of this often
overlooked hazard. Anne Garinger, Advocacy and Outreach Coordinator, Blank Children’s Hospital says, “Don’t depend on screens to prevent
falls. In 80% of window fall cases, a screen was in place. Keeping beds and furniture away from windows can prevent a child from climbing up to
the window and falling out.”To ensure your child’s safety install a window safety device that complies with ASTM standards. Only open windows
children can’t reach or are secured with a compliant safety device. Garinger says, “Teach your children to play a safe distance from windows, for
example two giant steps. Lock all unopened windows and never leave young children unattended near open windows.”

Hiring Heroes Career Fair - Apr. 17 and USA Staffing briefings; The next Hiring Heroes Career Fair will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 17 *at
Riley’s Conference Center. For more information, call 785-239-8363. In response to a memorandum on hiring reform issued by President Barack
Obama in May 2010, *the Department of Army is replacing their current application system – Resumix – with USA Staffing*. Army vacancy
announcements will continue to be posted on both www.armycivilianservice.com and on www.usajobs.gov [ http://www.usajobs.gov/ ]. Fort
Riley will transition from Resumix to web-based software owned by the Office of Personnel Management to fill internal and external vacancies.
DA deployed USA Staffing during fiscal year 2011 and will continue through FY2012. Fort Riley is tentatively scheduled to deploy in May 2012.
The vision of the Army Civilian Human Resource community is to provide a single point of entry for all recruitment and hiring activities. USA
Staffing will expedite the process for applicants, HR professionals and selecting officials through an efficient web-based interface. It automates
the recruitment and hiring process, including developing position-based assessments, creating and posting vacancy announcements, collecting
and reviewing application materials, rating and ranking candidates, issuing referrals, making selections and notifying applicants of their status
throughout the recruitment process. The Civilian Personnel Advisory Center will be conducting USA Staffing briefings to explain the differences
between Resumix and USA Staffing, how to move your resume into the new system and describe the new application process, the assessment
questionnaire and other documents required. The USA Staffing briefings are open to the current DA civilian workforce. There will be no charge
to leave to attend a session if prior supervisory approval is granted. Briefings will be conducted April 24, 25, 26, 30 and May 1 at the CPAC,
Building 319 Marshall Ave., Fort Riley. Sessions will be at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. each day. Call CPAC at 785-239-6004 to reserve your spot in a class.
Briefings for service members, military spouses and Family members are available every Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Employment Readiness
Program, Building 7285 Normandy Drive. Seating is limited, so call 785-239-9435 to reserve a seat in their class. For more information, please

In response to a memorandum on hiring reform issued by President Barack Obama in May 2010, *the Department of Army is replacing their current application system – Resumix – with USA Staffing*. Army vacancy announcements will continue to be posted on both www.armycivilianservice.com and on www.usajobs.gov [ http://www.usajobs.gov/ ]. Fort Riley will transition from Resumix to web-based software owned by the Office of Personnel Management to fill internal and external vacancies. DA deployed USA Staffing during fiscal year 2011 and will continue through FY2012. Fort Riley is tentatively scheduled to deploy in May 2012. The vision of the Army Civilian Human Resource community is to provide a single point of entry for all recruitment and hiring activities. USA Staffing will expedite the process for applicants, HR professionals and selecting officials through an efficient web-based interface. It automates the recruitment and hiring process, including developing position-based assessments, creating and posting vacancy announcements, collecting and reviewing application materials, rating and ranking candidates, issuing referrals, making selections and notifying applicants of their status throughout the recruitment process. The Civilian Personnel Advisory Center will be conducting USA Staffing briefings to explain the differences between Resumix and USA Staffing, how to move your resume into the new system and describe the new application process, the assessment questionnaire and other documents required. The USA Staffing briefings are open to the current DA civilian workforce. There will be no charge to leave to attend a session if prior supervisory approval is granted. Briefings will be conducted April 24, 25, 26, 30 and May 1 at the CPAC, Building 319 Marshall Ave., Fort Riley. Sessions will be at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. each day.
