Thanks to Social Media, the world is a melting
pot ideas and thoughts like never before!
It is also easier to form global communities and
connect with like-minded individuals.
Brands and are also harnessing this powerful
medium and social media is often at the forefront
of any marketing strategy, even for nonprofits -
for they find it easier to raise awareness, foster
engagement, and expand their network.
Here’s looking at some of the nonprofits that
have changed the world being truly social.
1
Founded in 1980 by helping one boy become a police officer, this popular
nonprofit gives children a platform on social media to share their stories
via YouTube and realize their dreams.
From meeting you favorite stars to traveling the world, Make-A-Wish now
grants a new child’s wish in the United States every 40 minutes. They use
their website to publish all granted wishes.

With the right targeting, keep a Breast’s #CheckYourSelfie
Campaign evolved into a social movement on Instagram. Millennials were
challenged to take the pledge and commit to performing monthly
self-breast checks – a message true to its brand’s value.
Like the Ice-bucket challenge, they were also able to create a momentum
for their campaign by asking participants to challenge and tag three friends
the same pledge.

Another great example of social media being a force for good is Pencils of
Promise’s (POP) Back to School Campaign. They successfully raised an
year’s supply of resources 1,600 students needed to attend school.
POP updated all their creatives to reflect the campaign mission and a strong
call to action when they launched their Back to School fundraising
campaign. They shared campaign milestones and thanked their donors,
keeping them engaged throughout.

Charity: Water campaign exemplifies thinking out of the box for nonprofits
yet staying true to your core.
The Idea of thanking donors is not novel for any nonprofit, but
charity: water on their 5th anniversary did things a little bit differently.
They empowered their team to publish content they thought would
resonate with their supporters.

Their anniversary videos encouraged people to start their own campaigns—
and 100% of what they raised or gave towards the September
Campaign would help them to buy a new drilling rig fleet that would
provide clean water for 40,000 more people each year in Northern Ethiopia.
They were able to raise over $1.2M by the end of their campaign, enough to
buy not one, but two drilling rigs.
