- 1. 5 Year Plan.
- 2. What are you currently doing to pursue a career in your chosen field? In the future I would love to do something in the creative media industry, hopefully editing photos and videos, as this is what I love doing in my spare time and when at college, I love the course I am studying as it allows me to learn new things about media and learn how I can improve m personal work outside of college. I usually spend my spare time editing photos and thumbnails/cover photos for YouTube (examples below), which I find relaxing as this is something I enjoy doing and would love to improve on in the future and make a career out of it. I would love to be able to develop my skills further and become even better at editing as this is my passion in life when I am out of college and work. I love to learn new things about editing photos and expand my knowledge through watching YouTube tutorials and taking advice from others, when I show them my work.
- 3. What do you plan to do next in the pursuit of your chosen field? To do this I will need to continue to develop my editing skills and learn new things as I progress in order to make my work come to the standard required to get a job in the media editing industry. I will. Need to complete my course at college in order to have the qualifications I need to get into university, I have the advantage that I sat my A-levels last year, as the grades I achieved will help me get into university. I will need to look into university courses and develop my skills based on the courses I think are most suited, as I will be able to prepare myself for uni and have the skills there to help me. l will also need to ensure I try my hardest at my college work, to ensure that I get the best grade I can possibly get, to help me progress into uni.
- 4. Select at least three potential University courses that would help you further your career aims. You should state what the course is, which university it is run by, the entry requirements and why you think it would help you. 1. Editing & Post Production BA (Hons)-Ravensbourne University London, requires CC. I feel this course will benefit me as it will allow me to develop my editing and media production skills to be able to get the career in life I want to do. 2. Digital Media Production BA (Hons)- Sheffield Hallam University, requires 112 UCAS points. I like the idea of this course as I will be able to gain skills and experience working on live projects, which will help me develop and progress all areas of my skills and ideas. 3. Digital Content Creation BA (Hons)- Staffordshire University, requires BBC. I feel this course would benefit me as it would allow me to access all different areas of the media industry and fin how my skills best fit in.
- 5. What type of work experience do you think you would need to help you in your future career? How might you be able to find work experience placements? If you could pick anywhere to do work experience, where would it be and why? I would love to visit some sort of editing studio, to get an insight to how things work in the professional side of the industry I want to work in, I would also like to visit a film studio of some sort, as I feel this would really open my eyes into how things work professionally. I would quite like to visit a marketing company for some experience in that side of the media, as I feel this would benefit me in many ways, as it will broaden my knowledge to more sides of the media industry. In terms of marketing, Pick And Mix Marketing, Poppleton often offer wok experience which I may be able to sort for myself during half term and/or on weekends in-between my part time job.
- 6. What specific skills do you need to develop? There should be a mix of industry specific skills and also personal development points. When you identify these, come up with suggestions as to how you might make those improvements. I will need to develop my editing of photo and film, as this plays a huge part in the career that I am hoping to go into, to do this I will need to familiarize myself with a range of different software that is involved in the media industry, and learn new techniques that I can use to broaden my knowledge and skills to become better at editing. The more I learn and practice at these things, the more I will understand exactly how editing works and how to make the best product I can. I also need to work on my self confidence, as this is something that holds me back a lot of the time as I don’t ever feel anything I have done is good, and tend to put myself down for it, despite what other people tell me. I will do this by learning more about editing and making myself believe that my work is good.
- 7. In 5 years time I will… In 5 years time, I will hopefully be at university or have just finished university, depending on the length of my course. I will hopefully have a job in the media industry, hopefully to do with film and photo editing. To be successful at this I will need to put my full effort into my college work so I can get into university, and then try my hardest while at university in order to come back with the best possible grade, and get a good job within the media industry. I hope to have a home, that is not still living with my parents, and to be focusing on my career/ finding a job in the media industry if I haven’t done so already. To do this I will need to make myself less dependant of my parents and start building up the confidence to do things for myself independently. I will need to try my hardest to succeed in education in order to get to this point.
