A Novel Real-Time Home
Automation System with Google
Assistance Technology

Abstract
• In this paper, smart mirror-based home automation system is designed.
• Voice commands (Google Assistance) in association with sensors are utilized for
controlled regulatory measures.
• One channel is dedicated for motion sensing switching of the equipment and another
dedicated for the light intensity-based switching of the equipment.
• Turn-on and turn-off the lights as per voice request.
• Search the web for voice query and read out the results about the weather.
• It reduces the energy consumption by switching off the device when not needed.
• Operated through smart mobiles, tablets, computers or Google home devices and self-
created microcontroller-based docks based on trigger byte information to the
authenticated server.

Introduction
• Voice operated switching control system are the smarter version.
• It can safely be applied inside a house, or the smaller unit, i.e., room.
• In last few years, demand of the smarter home is progressed [1-2], and precisely for
elderly people [3], speech recognition technology embedded with operation of electrical
appliances.
• For speech recognition process, extensive uses of DSP processors are mentioned by
various workers [1], [4],
• Due to high cost of the system it is unaffordable to many of the consumers.
• Many non-measurable parameters are missing , which raise augmentation issues of the
system with mobile devices.
• Our device is a composite system which is easy to operate with lower manufacturing
cost, with portable control terminal [5].

Previous Work
• Power line system at infrared wavelength [6] design home automation system.
• Short Message Service technology is proposed [7] for the same purpose.
• Jawarkar et. al. [8] using appropriate programmed chip to sustain AT command.
• Voice recognition based system [9-10].

Proposal
• It deals with an inexpensive system, where it uses Google Assistant.
• IFTTT server application, The Blynk application, and Google Cloud Console are used.
• As hardware part, The NodeMCU 8266 micro-controller acts as the major communicator.
• It receives and sends data to the designed application and server.
• It uses a relay board of 4/8 channel, who’s regulatory voltage is 5 volt and has the capability for
handling 10 Amp current through it.
• Natural English language is used to give command to the Google Assistance and receive data on
Blynk app.
• Cost function and system portability for common user needs to be optimized.
• Help elderly people, with easy system complexity for day-to-day use purpose.

Conclusion
• Cost-effective voice controlled (Google Assistant) home automation controlling general
appliances.
• Intelligence that can be integrated within their existing circuit.
• This system is highly reliable and efficient for the aged people and differently able person on a
wheelchair who cannot reach the switch for the switching ON/OFF the device and are dependent
on others.
• It is also applicable on the areas where user need appliance to work without reaching the switch
board and for saving energy.
• It can be implemented within the existing switch board by using a two-way switch.
