Botswana is a landlocked country located in Southern Africa. It was formerly known as the British Protectorate of Bechuanaland and gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1966. Botswana has a population of over 2 million people and its economy was transformed from one of the poorest to a middle income country due to its diamond mining industry. The official languages are Setswana, Kalanga, Sekgalagadi and English.
