The Three Pillars Approach to Your Agile Test Strategy Brian Estep
First of all, I’ve seen way too many teams who are just “testing” in agile teams without a map or a plan for improvement. I’ve also seen that Agile Adoption is mostly a developer-centric or technology-centric play. They “drive” and testing is “along for the ride”. Seatbelts please! And where’s the focus on “Quality”? And the how or practices & tactics?
User Acceptance Testing in the Testing Center of ExcellenceTechWell
Centralization of testing services into a testing center of excellence (TCoE) for system testing is common in IT shops today. To make this transformation mature, the next logical step is to incorporate the user acceptance testing (UAT) function into the TCoE. This poses unique challenges for the TCoE and mandates the testing team develop a combination of business process knowledge coupled with technology and test process expertise. Deepika Mamnani shares her experiences in implementing a UAT TCoE and best practices—from inception to planning to execution. Learn techniques to create business-oriented testable requirements, strategies to size and structure the team, and the role of automation. Review testing metrics needed to measure the success of the UAT function. Hear a real-world transformation journey and the quantitative business benefits achieved by an organization incorporating UAT as a centralized function within the TCoE. Take back strategies to incorporate UAT as a part of your TCoE.

Quality Index: A Composite Metric for the Voice of TestingTechWell
It is quite possible that you are spending a considerable amount of your time as a QA manager making sense of the multitude of metrics reported by your teams, connecting the facts, understanding the underlying reality, and articulating it to your peers and leadership. Still, others in the organization may not interpret the message correctly, rendering most of your efforts futile. Nirav Patel and Sutharson Veeravalli share insights to help you resolve this challenge through a composite measure called Quality Index. By aligning metrics to business outcomes and using Quality Index as a tool of articulation, disparate interpretation of data can be eliminated and a cohesive message delivered to stakeholders. Learn how QA can acquire a voice across the senior forums by articulating succinct, contextual, and actionable information to speed up executive decisions in the course of programs and projects.
'Quality Engineering: Build It Right The First Time' by Allan Woodcock, Shoba...TEST Huddle
It's no secret, that Quality Assurance (QA) plays a very vital role in assuring customer experience. Then, why wait till the end of the development phase to validate the business requirements?
Also, the cost of defect multiplies in the later stages of the development lifecycle. Quality Engineering (QE) is an innovative approach which focusses on upstream assurance of software through early involvement of QA in the lifecycle.
Techniques like architecture validation, design validation, quality profiling and static testing are defining the QE landscape. Industry leading tools and point solutions also enable effective and efficient QE approach for quality assurance teams.
As the IT focus moves to engineering quality with a lower Cost of Quality (CoQ), QE will play a vital role in achieving the end business objectives.

AI Changes Everything – Talk at Cardiff Metropolitan University, 29th April 2...Alan Dix
Talk at the final event of Data Fusion Dynamics: A Collaborative UK-Saudi Initiative in Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence funded by the British Council UK-Saudi Challenge Fund 2024, Cardiff Metropolitan University, 29th April 2025
https://alandix.com/academic/talks/CMet2025-AI-Changes-Everything/
Is AI just another technology, or does it fundamentally change the way we live and think?
Every technology has a direct impact with micro-ethical consequences, some good, some bad. However more profound are the ways in which some technologies reshape the very fabric of society with macro-ethical impacts. The invention of the stirrup revolutionised mounted combat, but as a side effect gave rise to the feudal system, which still shapes politics today. The internal combustion engine offers personal freedom and creates pollution, but has also transformed the nature of urban planning and international trade. When we look at AI the micro-ethical issues, such as bias, are most obvious, but the macro-ethical challenges may be greater.
At a micro-ethical level AI has the potential to deepen social, ethnic and gender bias, issues I have warned about since the early 1990s! It is also being used increasingly on the battlefield. However, it also offers amazing opportunities in health and educations, as the recent Nobel prizes for the developers of AlphaFold illustrate. More radically, the need to encode ethics acts as a mirror to surface essential ethical problems and conflicts.
At the macro-ethical level, by the early 2000s digital technology had already begun to undermine sovereignty (e.g. gambling), market economics (through network effects and emergent monopolies), and the very meaning of money. Modern AI is the child of big data, big computation and ultimately big business, intensifying the inherent tendency of digital technology to concentrate power. AI is already unravelling the fundamentals of the social, political and economic world around us, but this is a world that needs radical reimagining to overcome the global environmental and human challenges that confront us. Our challenge is whether to let the threads fall as they may, or to use them to weave a better future.

HCL Nomad Web – Best Practices und Verwaltung von Multiuser-Umgebungenpanagenda
Webinar Recording: https://www.panagenda.com/webinars/hcl-nomad-web-best-practices-und-verwaltung-von-multiuser-umgebungen/

5. The Factory Floor: Testing Team
`
Code / Develop
Test
The testing factory model characterised by:
❖ Specialisation of testing skills / roles
❖ Functions independent of dev and business
❖ Interpretation of Requirements drive testing
❖ Cost based RoI for Automation
❖ Metrics focussed on productivity, quality, coverage
❖ Team mainly composed for “Manual” Testers
❖ Automation, Performance testing skills are niche
❖ Team is usually prepared for the last minute “Sprint”
❖ Work is more hectic towards the end
Test Lead / Manager
Manual Testers
Automation Manual Testers
7. Effecting the Change - Steps towards Evolution
Agile Principles / Manifesto Change required by “Traditional” Testers
Focus on useful software - Customer Satisfaction From defects to what the business values
Embrace and welcome changes to requirements From “being the last to know” to motivated change
agents
Working software delivered frequently From discrete testing cycles to continuous testing
Cooperation between business and developers From independent testing to collaborative testing
Co-located teams
Distributed agile teams have become a norm - get
used to it
Progress measured by working software
From measuring productivity and defects to story
based metrics
Sustainable progress at a constant pace From the last minute dash to testing everyday
Simplicity and art of maximising work not done Structuring of test deliverables
8. Unlearning - the tough bit!
Skillsets
• The agile mindset can be an acquired skill. Incorporate Agile training prior to
project start. Invest in continuous learning
• Re-purpose purely manual testers to contribute to Technology, Automation, etc
Tools &
Techniques
• Adopt techniques like Model Based Testing, OATs, Virtualisation etc
• Feature testing rather than audit approach
Adaptability
• Continuous and evolving estimations as opposed to rigid initial estimates
• Testing should be part of change initiation process rather than a consumer of such
information
Measurement
• Move away from testing productivity based metrics
• Focus on metrics that indicate customer acceptance, test automation, product
quality, coverage
Automation
• Transition to Time based RoI from Cost based RoI
• Transition from Regression Automation to Progressive Automation
• All testers (and developers) should contribute towards automation
9. Repurposing testing for an Agile world
❖ Indian IT has over 120,000 testers today; a vast majority
of them are new to Agile
❖ Entry level training for testers needs to incorporate Agile
methodologies in their curriculum
❖ Greater exposure to technology for testers
