The Evolution of
Mona Lisa
Leonardo Da Vinci
1503-06
Considered to be the MOST
FAMOUS painting of all time, the
Mona Lisa is seen by 6 Million
people every year!
A portrait is a painting, photograph, sculpture, or other artistic
representation of a person, in which the face and its expression is
predominant.
Successfully captured portraits display the likeness, personality, and
even the mood of the subject.
Fill out the “Evolution of Portraiture” Questionnaire as we go over PowerPoint and with a partner afterwards.
The art of portraiture is considered one of the most
important facets of art history. Dating all the way back
to the Egyptians, portraits have been a key theme in
which the purpose for creating has evolved over
thousands of years.
Whether for reasons of vanity or record-keeping the
genre of portraiture has continued to grow in popularity
through the ages, yet our motivations for creating
portraits as well as the styles of execution have seen
considerable transformation and variation.
Let’s explore the Evolution of Portraiture…
