The Effect of Enzymes on Hydrogen Peroxide Decomposition
What is the function of enzymes in a living system?
Enzymes speed up metabolic reactions necessary for life. Without them certain vital processes would
not take place and the body would be unable to function.
Difference enzymes work better under different conditions. Where in a human body might it be
beneficial to have enzymes work in very acidic environments?
In areas, like the stomach, that have a pH of two would benefit by having enzymes that function well
in acidic environments. An example of such an enzyme is pepsin.
There is a large amount of catalase found in a human liver. Does the liver break down more hydrogen
peroxide in the summer or winter? Explain your answer.

Potassium permanganate used to titrate and determine the amount of decomposed hydrogen peroxide.
Sulfuric acid was used to stop the reaction with catalase and hydrogen peroxide. It denatured the
enzyme (catalase) and halted the reaction so the amount of hydrogen peroxide decomposed could be
measured.
Before performing part D of the experiment, why was it necessary to establish a baseline?
The baseline is a control and shows the amount of decomposed hydrogen peroxide in the initial
sample.
You may have observed the reaction of naturally occurring catalase in tissue from either liver of
potato. Design an experiment to determine if the amount of catalase varies from tissue to tissue (e.g.
200 g of liver compared to 200 g of potato).
Put the 100 g of potato in 1 petri dish and 100 g of liver in another petri dish. Then put equal amounts
of hydrogen peroxide for an equal period of time in both dishes. Drain the dishes and titrate them with
potassium permanganate simultaneously. The numbers can now be compared using the steps in the
sample calculation above in the lab report. In order to compare perform a potassium permanganate
titration on pure hydrogen peroxide.
Of the thousands of enzymes known, there is a family of enzymes called proteases that catalyze a
reaction of breaking down proteins. What do you think would happen if you added a protease to your
sample of catalase before proceeding with your experiment?
The catalase would be broken

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Video Game Therapy
Video Game Therapy
People choose many ways to learn how to deal with life. Life can be either difficult at times or easy.
The same idea can be applied to video games. Playing online games taught me patience, how to
interact with other people around the world and how to manage my stress.
Two factors in online games that can determine my interest are drop rates and game difficulty. A drop
rate is the probability or ratio that determines how much more or how much less an item will become
available from an enemy in a game. The drop rate for some items can be miniscule. When I played
Final Fantasy IX ten years ago, I had to kill a monster called a leech for an item that had a low drop
rate. Because of the low drop rate, it took me six hours to obtain ... Show more content on

Sometimes I just want to sit down and tune out everything around me, turn down the sound effects,
and listen to the music in the game. It calms me, and I forget about my problems for a while. It is a
stress reliever, and I also get an adrenaline rush from challenging fights. When an enemy is tough and
causes widespread area damage, every minute step or evasive direction I choose to make could be
fatal. Some people quit, I choose to persevere until I win. The feeling when I accomplish something so
difficult makes the task worth it. Because I am stationed overseas, I do not get to spend time with my
family back in the states, and it causes stress. Online games are a great way to still keep in touch with
them. Recently I started playing with my brother, although our time differences make it difficult. I also
bond with my wife by playing video games. Socializing with others is enjoyable, but finding
something that I can share with my significant other helps us manage relationship stress. I try to
update her equipment in order for her to fully enjoy all that the game has to offer, and that in itself
makes me happy.
In conclusion, playing online games over the years has taught me how to persevere through tough
times. Even though I live in another country, I will not let language barriers keep me from enjoying
my time here. Life is annoying, and I am glad I found something that I can share with my significant

Toni Cade Bambara The Lesson Analysis
In The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin and The Lesson by Toni Cade Bambara, symbolism is
included to represent the main characters and how they changed throughout each story. Mrs. Mallard
in The Story of an Hour transforms into a more independent woman, whereas Sylvia in The Lesson
discovers humility in herself. In The Story of an Hour, Mrs. Mallard s independence is represented by
her window, the armchair, and the season of spring. In The Lesson, Sylvia s transformation is
symbolized by the mailbox, her friends, and Miss. Moore. While both stories differ, they compare in
the sense of discovering oneself. In The Story of an Hour the window that Mrs. Mallard glances
through symbolizes her freedom. Mrs. Mallard sees the beautiful world beyond her ... Show more

Instead, Sylvia is forced to be engaged in educational events that Miss Moore sets up. While at the

educate them about the concept of money. However, Sylvia gets offended by thinking Miss Moore
sees herself as better than her simply by asking a harmless question. Sylvia is feeling entrapped and
resentment towards Miss Moore because Sylvia does not wish to participate in the events that Miss
Moore has planned such as the trip to Fifth Avenue. When taking the children to the expensive store,
the question that Miss Moore posted impacts Sylvia to where it exposes her to the other living lifestyle
of the crazy white folk (Bambara). The trip with Ms. Moore shows Sylvia how anyone can live with
luxuries. However, Sylvia expresses anger because she does not feel like she belongs in such an
expensive store. Miss Moore knows that the trip will cause Sylvia to think about her own lifestyle,
which makes Sylvia uncomfortable like she is imprisoned in the continuing mindset that she is not

The Is The Method Of Human Communication
Should infants really spend their childhood time watching useless junk that wouldn t benefit them for
later on in their life? Yes they re children and it wouldn t matter as much in that moment, but still it s
not beneficial and it won t help them. They could spend their time doing something more helpful that
could actually help them later in life like interacting with another kid or talking to their parents.
As defined by Webster s Dictionary, television is a system for transmitting visual images and sound
that are reproduced on screens, and used to broadcast programs for entertainment, information, and
education. Television has been around since 1927, and is viewed by everybody around the world,
including children. It is one of the main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But on the other hand if you were to let your child interact with another kid instead of letting them sit
and watch TV they are more likely to be better off in life. For example, if you leave your child sitting
in front of the TV watching Teletubbies they are less likely to be on the same level other kids are on
because they don t just sit there and watch TV all day. The more time infants spend sitting in front of
the TV, the harder it will be for them to learn how to communicate. With that being said TV is only a
medium for transmitting data, nothing more nothing less.
It s important to teach kids during the childhood phase how to be social and to learn social skills and
how to talk and interact with one another all the things a child can t learn/do if all they do is sit in front
of a TV all day. If a child is not raised to know how to socialize with other people, where do you think
they re going to end up? A child needs to know how to talk to other human beings, not just to Dora on
the TV. Research has shown that kids that watch a lot of television growing up tend to have a hard
time paying attention in class or just staying concentrated. A child is more likely to watch cartoons as
soon as they get home and lie about not getting homework instead of actually doing it. Don t
misunderstand, watching TV is a really helpful tool if used right. It s a known fact that children spend

The Implications For Social Work
This piece of writing is going to demonstrate an understanding of diversity, difference and also discuss
the implications for social work practice. It will include an understanding of theories and concepts in
relation to diversity where it will address the needs of diverse communities, individuals and groups,
exploring differences in relation to culture, ethnicity, gender, age, sexuality, social class and economic
wellbeing. It will also demonstrate an understanding of principle of working in an anti oppressive and
anti discriminatory way.
In relation to social work diversity does not simply mean difference in race and gender but also the
unnoticeable differences such as values, religion, social background, economic wellbeing and political
beliefs. It is important to acknowledge and understand diversity in social work as there have been
matters of holding assumptions and prejudices about an individual or group in the manner they are
treated and the services they receive. The issue with making assumptions and prejudices is
acknowledged in the Social Work Professional Capabilities Framework (PCF) as domain 3 explains
that diversity is multi dimensional, diversity can effect an individual s life experience in a positive or
negative way. This is due to the issues that occur with differences such as oppression, marginalisation
and alienation as well as the positive side which includes privilege, power and acclaim (Capabilities
within the PCF, 2014). Anti oppressive practice

The Deer Hunter Film Analysis
The movie The Deer Hunter is one of the greatest works of Robert De Niro, John Cazale and
Christopher Walken set by the year 1978. The first hour of the movie appears dull if the viewers are
expecting tragic drama or Melodrama move. However, after that, it thrusts one entirely to the war
theater. It brings a thorough understanding of the war in Vietnam and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
(PTSD). It carries our mind into the dark terrains of the Asian nation Vietnam where the American
forces face a brutal resistance war with the Vietnamese. It provides the viewer with the most gut
wrenching and disturbing examinations of the war until the end of the movie. In this particular scene,

The Preterm Birth And Autism
Prematurity and Autism have long time been thought to be linked. For reason such as late
development of preterm infants to the lack of adequate weight at birth. But, is it true that if a baby is
born preterm then they are destined to be autistic? In order to answer that question, we must first be
educated on preterm infants as well as the disorder of Autism. Not many people are educated on what
Autism is and even less are educated on the health and well being of premature babies. The purpose
for this research is to shed some light on both autism and premature birth as well as justify if there is
any connection between preterm birth and autism.
When one thinks of a baby born prematurely many imagine a tiny one pound baby barely able to live
even with all the ventilators and machines hooked up to it. They imagine a baby that will be under
weight and unable to leave the hospital for many months to come. Few will know the risk factors that
come along with being preterm, and even less will know that preterm babies are just as capable of
living healthy and normal lives. Every child develops in their own unique way, and your baby s
development will depend on a range of factors, including his genetic make up, and the environment
and influences around him (https://www.tommys.org).
For those who are unsure of what qualifies a baby as premature, a premature baby is any baby that is
born before 37 weeks gestation. Any baby born at 37 weeks or higher is considered full term. Late

Why Go To Archbishop Williams
Why do you want to go to Archbishop Williams? I think I would thrive at Archbishop Williams. I ve
been told many good things about the school from my neighbor, Matthew Klier as well as a friend,
Julia Geary, with whom I ve played softball for a number of years on our local Squantum team. I ve
spent time in the Archbishop Williams buildings taking the HSPT review course, am looking forward
to a shadow day, and can envision myself succeeding in its environment.
I m happy to know that Archbishop Williams offers Advanced Placement level classes. I am currently
in an Advanced Placement program at Central Middle School. Even though I am doing very well in it,
I find the pace and the subject matter very challenging. If I continue to manage my time well, I think
this would be the right path for me to prepare for college successfully.
I was happy to learn that Archbishop Williams has a golf team and hope I could play on it. My father

I would definitely join the theatre ensemble as I ve come to love musical theatre over the years. Over
the past twelve months, I ve been in almost fifty musicals, concerts and plays. I think I could bring my
experience, dedication and passion for the performing arts to benefit Archbishop Williams. I d also be
interested in joining the National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society if I qualify.
Even though Archbishop Williams is in Braintree, it will feel like a neighborhood school because of its
proximity to my house and many people I know attend. I spent a great deal of time in a bus this
summer being transported to Beverly, MA for Boston Children s Theatre summer program, and
realized I don t like commuting long distances. I like the fact that the students at Archbishop Williams
live close to the school, giving us a chance to get together socially or for community service

Hag Seed Analysis
Unexpected occurrences take place that are negative, and these might be things which one does not
have control over. Authors often use internal struggles as a mental imprisonment that one much
conquers in order to achieve their full potential. In Hag Seed, Felix is backstabbed, kicked out of his
job as the director of the Makeshiweg theater festival, and put on his journey to prove to those who
betrayed him that they were wrong but most importantly he has to show himself that he can overcome
the harsh obstacles of failure and rejection. The psychotic break Felix suffers after his termination, and
Miranda s death, motivates him to direct The Tempest, which ultimately heals him.
With the acceptance that his career, in his mind, is over, Felix leaves the theater and consumed with
revenge. Humiliated, he retreats from society. Alone in a tiny hut, he mourns his lost little girl,
Miranda, who died not long before he was ousted from his position, and he plots his revenge on his
replacement, Tony Price. Refusal to tackle the situation head on leads to a path of self wallowing.
Felix s mind is clouded with possibilities of how he can hurt Tony because forgiving takes more work
and effort. He starts to realize that his spying is a little deranged, though only a little (Atwood 44).
With hopes of bettering himself, Felix searches for a job hoping to gain control back to his life. He
could not have found a more suitable position. He starts his own theatre with the inmates who are

People Who Work On Wall Street Essay
People who work on Wall Street are considering elites of the society, their works relate to finance and
deal with the world economy. Many students desire for working on Wall Street; however, this dream is
hard to accomplish because this job is for people who are considered smart . In Biographies of
Hegemony, the author Karen Ho brings up the idea of smartness, which addresses to people not only
have individual intelligence, but also have the quality of being an expert and has self confidence,
aggressive, and hard working. Basically, in the article, Ho talks about students graduate from Harvard
or Princeton and now they are working on Wall Street. Ho believes smartness is a form of
impressiveness because smartness is not just about intelligence, but also a way to separate away from
normal people. However, in Project Classroom Makeover, the author Cathy Davidson pays more
attention to students who may not be the expertise, but they will use collective learning to share
different opinions. Collective learning brings out the idea of crowdsourcing. Crowdsourcing is a group
of people share ideas and solve problems, which is one way of collective learning. The theory of
smartness shares commons and differences with collective learning. For common, both smartness and
collective learning require students to work together and have the confidence to conquer the
difficulties, which lead students to the future success. For differences, smartness is associated with
students who have an

Home Depot was more concerned with expanding into new markets than it was about ensuring that
they maintained their position as a low cost retailer. With Home Depot s rapid expansion, they
experienced the diseconomies of scale through decentralized purchasing, multiple suppliers for the
same goods and difficulty managing the number of stores, all items that Nardelli addressed. When
Nardelli took over, he shifted the strategy to integrated. He implemented methods to improve the
process efficiency of Home Depot to keep them as a cost leader with investments into IT and logistics
and the elimination of the cash return policy. He also moved to differentiate Home Depot by adding
services such as tool rentals and professional contractor services, making the stores more appealing
through layout changes and an emphasis on helping customers instead of restocking. The major issue
that faces Home Depot in 2005 is its lack of a clear strategy. Home Depot put resources towards
addressing process efficiency issues which are in line with cost leadership, but they also invested
heavily in obtaining a differentiated position. Although Home Depot appears to be trying to obtain an
integrated position, they are failing at both cost leadership and differentiation. Home Depot made
significant improvements in their processes by centralizing purchasing and switching to automated
inventory management to be a cost leader, but they

Throughout this paper, four articles about differentiated instruction will be analyzed, and the
information in those articles will be broken down and synthesized to further exemplify how important
it is that schools across the world use this system of instruction and learning. My definition of

What she is teaching us is that differentiated learning has come a long way from where it once started,
what should be taken away is that it can only get better from where it started. Technology has a big
part to do with that.
Technology has quickly become one of the main resources for many schools across the country and
world. It gives students with learning disabilities a variety of options to learn, study, and practice in
the classroom and outside of the classroom depending on the school s accessibility of technology. In
one article called Embedded Supports to Differentiate Instruction for Struggling Students written by
Alise Bran, she talks about using technology in the classroom. She says, The use of embedded or
readily available digital learning supports and tools has been shown to be an effective way of
addressing the needs of diverse students, particularly those with disabilities.
For many students who struggle with reading or writing, the act of decoding, or puzzling out correct
spelling, requires significant effort. Built in tools that provide just in time supports relieve the
cognitive load on students, allowing them to focus more of their attention on comprehension or
generating written content, (Bran 2012). What Bran is saying is that technology is an integral part of
differentiated learning. Since all students are different, they might

Kate Chopin s The Awakening Essay
Kate Chopin s The Awakening
Kate Chopin s novel The Awakening expresses the difficulty of finding a woman s place in society.
Edna learns of new ideas such as freedom and independence while vacationing in Grand Isle. Faced
with a choice to conform to society s expectations or to obey personal desires for independence, Edna
Pontellier realizes that either option will result in dissatisfaction. Thus, Edna s awakening in Grand
Isle leads to her suicide.

The two main women in Edna s life serve as foils of each other and static characters to which Edna
can compare. Adele Ratignole presents the ideal, socially accepted woman figure. She exemplifies all
that is perfect: devoted wife seeking only to please her spouse, loving mother, knowledgeable,
conventional, mother woman, elegant, charming, simple, and servant to both her family and society.
Completely opposite of the dependent woman is Mademoiselle Reisz who personifies all that Adele
would disgust. Reisz remains isolated from society, shunned as a recluse for her passion of music. She
is unpopular, solitary, unmarried, childless, but also courageous, passionate, independent, inspired, and
free. The two figures rest on polar ends of a societal spectrum. This distance creates a horrific gap
within which Edna finds herself. Edna identifies with both women, having qualities and tendencies of
each. This dual connection complicates Edna s identity; she cannot fully embody either woman type
while she possesses qualities of the other. Edna remains in a situation in which success cannot be
achieved.
Edna s awakening allows the two distinct female models of society to become clear, and her
awakening causes her to feel unable to conform to either model. Edna s arousal is that which opens

historian s opinions of Napoleon shift between admiring his achievements, in varying contexts of
military victories, reorganizing governmental systems, or establishing civil codes, to criticizing his
personal lust for power culminating in his assumption of the title of emperor. This essay will discuss

This argument is not very persuasive because it ignores other aspects of Napoleon s regime, such as
his military efforts.
In addition to Mansel, Frederik C. Schneid writes about Napoleon s ambition in using his power and
genius in creating an empire. Schneid brings forth the militaristic aspect of Napoleon s government
and his abilities as a general. For instance, he elaborates: [Napoleon] pursued an imperium sine fine,
an empire without end, and his inability to formulate a coherent political system to consolidate his
position of European hegemony condemned him to rule over a Europe in constant strife with his
regime. He makes the point that Napoleon s desire for glory and sweeping military victories were the
cause behind his goal of conquering the continent of Europe. Similar to Mansel s argument, Schneid
only considers a singular perspective in his approach, leaving out other crucial variables that effect
Napoleon s motivation to achieve his ultimate

Does An Image Really Mean Something By Fred R. Barnard
Analytical Essay: Does an Image Really Mean Something
Fred R. Barnard once said, One picture is worth a thousand words. Fred R. Barnard had memories,
which were captured through images that explained how he felt about certain experiences in life. An
image can be very helpful for individuals to capture the life experiences to reminisce later on.
Manipulation of the images leads to many different interpretations of it. Each individual will analyze
the same image in different ways based on their past experiences. The manipulation of the image
allows each individual to come up with their own unique meaning of an image and relate it to their
own experiences in life. Images can be manipulated and photoshopped in a way where it can mean
what an individual wants it to mean. We are in an era where manipulation of the images ... Show more

Now a day manipulation of the image makes it very difficult to point out what is real and what is

Christine Rosen on the Image Culture gave a very modest overview of how much images can mean to
the individual. She also talks about the positive as well as the negative aspects of images. The image

A Short Note On Flower
Flower, would you, perhaps, care to pass the extra package of seeds? asked my father, looking up from
where he was leaning over. Oh, yes, sir! I replied, walking over and giving him the package of
cabbage seeds. He smiled at me, turning back around towards the dirt. After making a small hole in
the ground, he dropped two seeds into the hole, compressing the earth around the seed to ensure that
there was absolutely no air to prevent the seeds from rooting. My father was wearing his informal
trousers, complete with work boots, a pair of ratty suspenders, and a plain white button down
underneath. Upon his head was a black wide brimmed hat, simple but effective at blocking the sun
from his eyes. As for myself, I was similar in the theme. I wasn t wearing my best clothing, just shorts
that I didn t care much more and an old t shirt. On my head was a straw hat to keep the sun out of my
eyes, and I was barefoot, not caring much for wearing shoes in a time like this. You know, Sylvia, he
began, It s a humbling responsibility to take care of greenery. In fact, I m confident that it is one of the
very best ways to build character. Everyone should have a garden. In fact, I once petitioned to the king
that all of the houses should have their own garden. At first he accepted the idea, but... in time, he
simply made servants take care of it, and then canceled the project. As for you, I would like to keep

Examples Of Fashion Trends In The 1920s
Fashion Trends in the 1920s In the 1920s, women wore day dresses, in the day, hence it s called day
dresses. For day dresses, the dress were short and loose. It wasn t until 1925 when the length of the
day dresses was around the knees. The waistline for the day dresses were right below the bust line and
as time went on, the waistline lowered. So by 1922, the waistline for the day dresses were around the
hips. As for the colors of the day dresses, the 1920s was really into floral prints and pastel colors.
Besides from day dresses, evening dresses were completely the opposite. Depending on the quality
and style of your evening dresses, it would basically show the women s social status, how much
money they would have. Everything on the evening dress was expensive, from the accessories such as
beads to its material. There are many different styles of necklines on the formal dresses and it consists
of a low square cut, scoop, or a V shape. As for the back of the dresses, it would either be a low scoop
or V also. To complete the formal look, women would also add on accessories such as jewelry. There
would be long necklaces, which are usually made out of fake pearls/beads, cuff bracelets that would
usually go up to the arm or around the biceps, and those were made out of either gold or silver,
earrings that we usually long, and chokers. Women could also wear stockings if they liked to, and the
colors of stockings were usually black or nude. Women could also put on a cloche hat

Decolonization Of The British Empire
Decolonization in the British Empire is a deliberate process involving the colonial power and
emerging local elite. The discussions in Chapters 1 and 2 provide insights into colonial development
and the pre independence environment which provide context for answering the research questions
and testing the hypotheses. This chapter examines the first question why do some newly sovereign
states retain ties with the JCPC? Based on my theory that states chose the final appellant court it
expects to be a reliable partner in the new governing coalition. The emerging elite that form the
coalition are influence by the colonial experience of colony. For the purposes of this research the U.K.
s Westminster Act of 1931 or the official year of independence is considered the critical juncture. The
Westminster Act gives the Dominions Australia, Canada, and New Zealand, the option to abolish
appeals to the JCPC. The critical juncture for all other states is the year of independence starting with
India and Sri Lanka in 1948 to the most recent, Brunei, in 1984. I hypothesize that the longer length of
time the state was a colony increases the likelihood that the JCPC will be retained. Second, type of
colonial rule direct rule (as opposed to indirect) increases the likelihood that the JCPC will be retained
as the final appellant court at independence. This chapter proceeds in the following manner. First, I
explain the selection of former colonies for the sample. Second, I present the

1889 during his stay at the asylum of Saint Paul de Mausole near Saint Rémy de Provence. During the
time he created this masterpiece, Vincent van Gogh live in a hospital while he continues to make this
art when he was ill.
The artist of this painting was named Vincent van Gogh and he was born on the 30th of March in
1853. He was known to be a self taught painter of the post impressionist style. Post impressionism was
used to describe the development of French art since Manet. Vincent van Gogh artist style was to
practice the uses of bright colors, distinctive brush strokes, thick application of paint, and unwavering
subject matter about the realities of life in this masterpiece. Vincent van Gogh found his place in art
and produced emotional and visually attractive paintings over the course of a career that lasted about a
decade.
The reason why Vincent van Gogh created the portray called The Starry Night was because he began
to suffer hallucination and have thoughts of suicide as he plunged into depression. Just before sunrise,
he was inspired by the east facing window view of his asylum room at Saint Rémy de Provence which
he later uses his imagination to create the artwork. The Starry Night masterpiece was based on van
Gogh s direct observations as well as his imagination, memories, and emotions of the sunset at the
asylum. He also wrote a letter to his brother Theo van Gogh about him seeing an amazing view which
was stated: This morning I saw the country from my window a long time before sunrise, with nothing
but the morning star, which looked very big . This part of the letter was evidence that he created The
Starry Night because he was inspired by the view and use his imagination to paint the picture with oil
painting. The Starry Night masterpiece features a scene of a Dutch looking town that was mainly

The Psychological And Mental Effects Of Fertility
Introduction
According to the Department of Health and Human Services (2005), approximately 10% to 15% of
couples would experience infertility in some form. Infertility occurs when a couple tries to have
children without any success (Chandra, 2005). Though most cases of infertility can be attributed to
physiological factors in one or both partners, it still has a psychological impact on the relationship.
The psychological and mental effects of fertility are present in both men and women, but there are
options to help a couple get through it. Infertility describes the reproductive disease that causes a
reduced potential for a man or woman to conceive or the failure of a woman to carry a child to term.
Clinically, infertility is defined as the inability of women and men to achieve pregnancy after 12
months of unprotected sexual intercourse. This time frame is reduced to 6 months for women over 35,
as women become less fertile as they get older. Infertility in couples is categorized into two broad
categories. Primary infertility describes a case without any previous pregnancy, while secondary
infertility occurs in a couple who have carried at least one pregnancy to term, but is having fertility
problems on further tries. Another reproductive issue closely related to infertility is sterility, which
leaves no chance for impregnation.
Genetic Factors Like most subjects under life span development, infertility is a result of both genetic
and environmental factors.

The Four Core Competencies Used In My Animation Process
Animations are an excellent way of bringing joy to a person while enhancing their experience.
However, for an animation to be successful, the animator should meet the audience based
expectations. As I reflect on my animation project, I will focus on the four core competencies used in
the making of this project.
Critical Thinking The first competency used in my project involved the process of critical thinking.
Before I came up with a story for my animation, I thought about numerous ideas that could potentially
assist me with exploring the basic fundamentals and skills of animation. The first step was to identify
the problem as well as the factors that could influence it. In this case, the type of animation that would
be well suited for children ages two to ten. Once I had a clear picture of the problem and the target
audience, I began to dive deeper into the issue and its possible solutions.
Researching was my second step in the critical thinking process. When using research for this project,
I came up with ideas that were relevant and useful to the task at hand. Consequently, critical thinking
played a crucial role in deciding on new ideas, selecting the best ones and adjusting them if necessary.
This lead to a reasonable solution ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Consequently, I was able to have a clear topic for the project due to effective communication with my

Regional Differences Between The Northern And Southern...
1. The first important difference between the northern and southern colonies were the motives people
had in choosing where to settle. The northern colonies primarily consisted of people who were looking
for religious freedom. It was also comprised of men who were well versed in law and government. A
common purpose unified the colonists in the north and helped to create tight knit communities. As a
result, the northern states thrived. There was a dramatic increase in population and a longer life span.
Economic gain is what drove settlers south. These colonies were mostly comprised of young men with
little to no claim in English society. Large plantations replaced tight knit communities. A lack of
purpose in religious and social objectives stunted the growth of the southern colonies. By the mid to
late 1700 s the southern states began to stabilize and population began to increase. 2. The second
difference between the northern and southern colonies were the regional differences between the
people. Religion dominated the northern colonies. It governed the culture as well as the daily choices
people made. In the north education and literacy were important and as a result there were
opportunities to go to school and be educated. In the north, most of men were intellects and many
were university educated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Economy is the third difference. The northern states depended on manufacturing and trade to fuel their
economy. The growing season was much shorter than that of the south. As a result, northerners looked
to other ways of making money. Many became artisans and tradesmen. The shorter farming seasons
also reduced the need for slave labor in the north. In contrast, the south relied primarily on agriculture.
While land owners learned what crops to grow the economy in the south continued to be unstable. By
the early 1700 s plantation owners began growing various kinds of crops instead of relying solely on
tobacco. This helped to stabilize and grow the southern

Adversity In Slumdog Millionaire
The rags to riches film, Slumdog Millionaire (2008), is a picaresque narrative about two Indian
brothers growing up in one of the largest slum areas in Bombay, the Dharavi slum. People here are
known as slumdogs because the slum has little access to clean water or sanitation. The main
protagonist, Jamal Malik, is idealistic and truthful and has faith in his destiny. His older brother Salim
is his opposite, and he becomes corrupted by his desire to make money. The film recounts Jamal s life,
from when he was a young street kid living as a slumdog and surviving by begging, stealing or

The audience sees some characters believing that destiny will determine their fate whereas others are
searching for power in the form of influence or money. A two colour structure is used to highlight
these aspects where yellow represents hope and blue represents power. The film opens in a golden
light, which symbolises money but also the hope of becoming a millionaire. Generally, Jamal s
childhood memories are visualised in warm and bright colours that become colder and muted as his
life adverse experiences approach the present. Latika wears bright yellow to symbolise happier times.
However, when she is separated from Jamal or is being exploited and forced into prostitution by
Maman or the crime boss, Javed, she wears less yellow and the colour is muted. In contrast, the
protagonists are portrayed in dark or washed out colours in scenes that include blue hues that signify
power. The blue god Rama also symbolises the Hindu vigilantes attacking the Muslim residents. The
interrogation scenes use unusual camera angles and lighting to further emphasise power, such as when
Jamal is depicted in a dim light, but light is shone on the top of the interrogator at the rear of the shot.
Overall, India s polar society is separated through colour and by space; where the poor wear dark,
dirty clothes and live in dark, bland houses and the wealthy wear colourful, clean clothes

Symbolism In Guys De Maupassant
In the short story, Guys de Maupassant blends in symbolism by writing lessons that are similar to real
life experiences. With that, he is points out his meaning in which people should not ask more than
what they need because it will lead to bitterness. For if people obtain too much of what they want or
more than what is required, their eyes will soon be clouded of foolishness. Identically, the character
Mathilde was able to prove this true. The author characterizes the lady as a self centered one.
Frequently, Mathilde complains that she does not have the things she wants, for she was feeling
herself born for every delicacy and luxury... as if she was in the high class. She plunges herself too far

de Maupassant uses the empty box as a symbol of people empty of trust. As a result of her previous

Nevertheless, this leads to more labor in the return of debt. An analogous pair to this would be the

used pictures of the food to represent that number.
The bar graph was introduced after the picture graph. The information used in the picture graph was
transferred to a bar graph to show the students the same information in a different format.
The line graph was introduced at the end of third grade, but not in much detail. In this edition, the line
graph is used to display a person s height from birth to 10 years of age.
The circle graph, also known as a pie chart or graph, was introduced after the line graph. The example
in the book was someone keeping track and showing how they spend their day. This is a good example
of how to get the students involved. They could easily keep a schedule of their day and make a circle
graph. That sounds like a great extra credit project to me.
Other skills introduced in this book includes using tally marks to collect the data for your charts, using
number lines to introduce negative and positive numbers, and using that number line to solve
problems.

What Does Death Symbolize In The Masque Of The Red Death
Jesus Ponce De Leon English 090A Mr.Howard October 30, 2015 The Masque Of The Red Death
Edgar Allen Poe s short story The Masque of the Red Death takes place in an unspecified land at some
time in the past when, from their great castles, Lords and Princes held dominion over the common
people. A plague had devastated the world and the only refuge there is, is in a luxury castle with safety
beyond the walls, and welded doors where nothing can come in and nothing can go out. Prince
Prospero is the host of this whole plan. Prince Prospero s plan is to await the end of this whole plague.
The plague is called the Red Death, this plague came with harsh and gruesome symptoms, whipping
almost all population infront of it. The harsh and gruesome symptoms overcame victims with sharp
pains, sudden dizziness, and hematidrosis. Poe uses detailed imagery to create the setting inside the
unique castle. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We might interpret it as window into Poe s dark and tortured soul as a man with psychological and

and if you run away, it will come for you sooner or later. The guests thought that, being in a refuge
with nothing coming in or out, they would be safer; however, it turns out that the Red Death came
after them and hunted them down. The clock symbolizes time of their death, as if the time for their
death came closer each time. It seems like the higher social classes always have a bigger chance of
surviving because of the easy access to resources. However, the higher class always seems to go down
faster. The color of rooms also come in play to all this as every color seems to give a certain mood,
and very few dared to enter the seventh dark room as it may represent death, and they were afraid of

diehard fan to follow the sport. The game of hockey is over 100 years old and fighting is one element
that has kept players engaged and fans hooked throughout the years. The first indoor hockey game
was played in 1875 and the NHL was formed 42 years later in 1917. In 1922, fighting was added to
the rule book as a regulated aspect of the game. Looking at the history of hockey shines a light on the
players and fans passion for the game. Hockey fights should stay in the game for the protection and
safety of skilled players, rivalries between teams, and finally because it s a unique part of the sport.

In the event that a player makes a dirty hit on a skilled player, the enforcer s role is to send a message
to the other team. For fear that a skilled player will be hurt and unable to play, an enforcer will take
matters into his own hands. As a result, skilled players feel protected and can do their job of scoring
goals more effectively. All things considered, fighters are there for protection, not violence. Fighting
as part of the game reduces injuries drastically. At the present time, fighting in the NHL is being
heavily debated and there are two very different sides to the argument. In the meantime, with the
stricter regulations against fighting, NHL injuries are at an all time high. My coach, Kelly Chase a
retired NHL enforcer says that with concussions being such a focus in sports, only 2% of the ones in
the NHL are caused by fights. The other 98% are caused by dirty hits. In the background of the
controversy, the game has evolved to where fighting is not an enforcer s only role on the team.
Beyond a reputation for being tough, an enforcer good hockey player. All things considered, fighters

Jude Charles
Little did anyone know, these next few days are going to be very tragic for everyone around. The
tragic starts with Jude Charles, the new guy. He moved to a different town and he now attends Rome
High School, named after the most popular girl in the school, Romania. There was something about
Jude Charles that made everyone admire him. Every student found him as a great leader and was
willing to listen to everything he said. However, there are two students that were not blindsighted by
him, Bailey and Cassie. They thought that something felt off about him, but they did not second look
it. Jude Charles worked his magic around the school causing every girl to fall in love with him.
However, Jude only had his eyes on one girl, Romania. Romania ... Show more content on

Bailey and Cassie were informed about this new couple, and knew right away that Jude Charles is not
right for Romania. These two had a talk with her and Romania was not going to change her mind.
Bailey and Cassie had to take action to get rid of Jude Charles or Romania will not be the same. They
came up with the best plan to get this monster out of Romania s hair forever. The next day they started
their plan in English class which they shared with Jude Charles. They both sat directly behind him so
the teacher could not see the girls. They started to make disruptions in class. They make funny noises,
and even threw papers everywhere until the teacher noticed and saw that the disruptions were coming
from the area of Jude Charles, so it had to be him. The teacher then sent him to the principal s office.
The girls followed him there and once again sat behind him in the office and did the same activity. The
principle stated that if he continued he would be expelled and would have to find a different school.
Bailey and Cassie knew that this was going to be their chance to get him away from Romania, so they
continued and soon after, Jude Charles was thrown

The Gucci Mane Conspiracy
After his release from prison in 2016, the conspiracy that Gucci Mane is a clone rose due to leaving
his trap lifestyle behind, picking up a new, sophisticated lifestyle, and how he will not confirm nor
deny the allegations. To this day, there is still a lot of buzz in the air that the Gucci that was released in
2016 is not the same Gucci that was incarcerated in 2013.
Previous to his arrest, Gucci Mane became notorious for living and glamorizing the trap lifestyle, a
lifestyle heavily influenced by and involved with drugs. From songs like Breakfast (Trap God), a song
with lyrics I smoke weed for breakfast / I drink lean for breakfast / I take mollies, I take xannies, I can

After his release from Prison 3 years later, Gucci left behind his drug induced lifestyle and turned his
life around to better himself, his career, and the people around him. In Gucci s autobiography, he
describes how he changed for the better, I looked different from the man in my September mugshot.
(Mane 249) He also adds to the credibility of his new and improved lifestyle with the lyrics from the
hit single Perfect Pint, produced by Mike Will Made It featuring Rae Sremmurd and Kendrick Lamar,

How Marketers Target Kids
How Marketers Target Kids
Kids represent an important demographic to marketers because they have their own purchasing power,
they influence their parents buying decisions and they re the adult consumers of the future.
Industry spending on advertising to children has exploded in the past decade, increasing from a mere
$100 million in 1990 to more than $2 billion in 2000.
Parents today are willing to buy more for their kids because trends such as smaller family size, dual
incomes and postponing children until later in life mean that families have more disposable income.
As well, guilt can play a role in spending decisions as time stressed parents substitute material goods
for time spent with their kids.

Buzz or street marketing
The challenge for marketers is to cut through the intense advertising clutter in young people s lives.
Many companies are using buzz marketing a new twist on the tried and true word of mouth method.
The idea is to find the coolest kids in a community and have them use or wear your product in order to
create a buzz around it. Buzz, or street marketing, as it s also called, can help a company to
successfully connect with the savvy and elusive teen market by using trendsetters to give their
products cool status.
Buzz marketing is particularly well suited to the Internet, where young Net promoters use
newsgroups, chat rooms and blogs to spread the word about music, clothes and other products among
unsuspecting users.
Commercialization in education
School used to be a place where children were protected from the advertising and consumer messages
that permeated their world but not any more. Budget shortfalls are forcing school boards to allow
corporations access to students in exchange for badly needed cash, computers and educational
materials.
Corporations realize the power of the school environment for promoting their name and products. A
school setting delivers a captive youth audience and implies

The Effect of pH and Temperature on the Efficiency of Catalase
Abstract: In order to determine how pH and temperature affect the liver enzyme catalase, an
experiment was conducted. Catalase breaks apart hydrogen peroxide producing water and oxygen.
Using an O2 sensor to measure how much additional oxygen is added into a sealed Nalgene bottle, we
could determine the enzymes effectiveness. Three variations of temperature were tested: cold, hot and
room temperature. This was done by taking test tubes with the three different samples and placing
them in a Nalgene Bottle. It was determined that the enzyme is most effective when at room
temperature although still functions when it is chilled. The heated sample was drastically less
effective. The pH was tested by adding acid (HCl), base () and neutral (water) to the enzyme. When
the enzyme samples were tested using the hydrogen peroxide and O2 sensor test it was determined
that any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Its function is the speed up the decomposition of Hydrogen peroxide within cells. This is an important
function within living animals because it becomes a poisonous substance. Catalase breaks apart
hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen through enzyme substrate complexes. (Tully) The shape of
catalase is complex with various alpha helices and beta sheets. (Corsini) This shape is very important
to its function and variation in temperature and pH can denature the enzyme.
Hypothesis:
Part I: Testing the Effect of Heat If the enzyme temperature is decreased then it will not decompose
hydrogen peroxide because it normally functions at a higher body temperature.
Part II: Testing the Effect of pH If the enzyme pH is increased than it will not decompose because it
will be much more acidic than the more neutral environment it functions in.

Odysseus As The Guest In Homer s Odyssey
Winnifred Odysseus as The Guest The Odyssey, in essence, is a tale of Journeying. After Odysseus
has endured countless near death experiences, he lands in the land of the Phoenicians. We follow
Odysseus and his crew as he recounts his laborious journey from war and violence, to home; his wife
and son. We are forced to understand the importance of each of Odysseus s trials, from the battle with
the Ciconians, to the underworld, to his seven year stay with the witch goddess, Circe, and finally to
match his own wife s suitors at his home in Ithaca. Odysseus wanderings are equally as important as
the stops between. The relevance and importance of Odysseus courage and cunning in each of his

her completely naked, and begs her for assistance. Upon impact, she is willing to provide him with

drink, my girls. (101) This final act of hospitality is what sends Odysseus homebound. He has earned
his Kleos and the privilege of being recognized as a Hero, but finds himself at the mercy of a
hospitable princess in a foreign land. Without the Phoenicians and without Xenia, Odysseus is still a
man lost at sea. Once Odysseus finds himself in front of King Alcinous and Queen Arete, he begins
the story of travels and Recounts on the times when Xenia was not present. Most notably of these is
undoubtedly his encounter with the son of Poseidon,

Dialectic Of Enlightenment, Horkheimer And Adorno
In the first part of Dialectic of Enlightenment, Horkheimer and Adorno mainly discuss the
enlightenment. At first they wrote about how the enlightenment was viewed as a positive thing. After
they state how enlightenment was viewed in the past, they contrast that view by asserting that
enlightenment is the disenchantment of the world. They also say that the enlightenment wanted to
dismiss the myths and get rid of fantasy with knowledge. Horkheimer and Adorno also asserted that
enlightenment always reverted back to myth. They also argued that the enlightenment demythologized
the natural world with knowledge. In the text of Dialectic of Enlightenment, the authors also talk
about how myth and enlightenment share the fact that mankind always seeks domination over nature.
Horkheimer and Adorno both are critical of the enlightenment and they also seek to redeem it. They
also seek to explain that enlightenment will always revert back to myth. In the first chapter titled The
Concept of Enlightenment, Horkheimer and Adorno define enlightenment by stating Enlightenment,
understood in the widest since as the advance of thought, has always been aimed at liberating human
beings from fear and installing them as masters. Yet the wholly enlightened earth is radiant with
triumphant calamity. Enlightenment s program was the disenchantment of the world. It wanted to
dispel myths, to overthrow fantasy with knowledge Horkheimer and Adorno first start defining
enlightenment as how it was

Without them certain vital processes would not take place and the body would be unable to function. Difference enzymes work better under different conditions. Where in a human body might it be beneficial to have enzymes work in very acidic environments? In areas, like the stomach, that have a pH of two would benefit by having enzymes that function well in acidic environments. An example of such an enzyme is pepsin. Sulfuric acid was used to stop the reaction with catalase and hydrogen peroxide. It denatured the enzyme (catalase) and halted the reaction so the amount of hydrogen peroxide decomposed could be measured. Before performing part D of the experiment, why was it necessary to establish a baseline? The baseline is a control and shows the amount of decomposed hydrogen peroxide in the initial sample. You may have observed the reaction of naturally occurring catalase in tissue from either liver of potato. Design an experiment to determine if the amount of catalase varies from tissue to tissue (e.g. 200 g of liver compared to 200 g of potato). Put the 100 g of potato in 1 petri dish and 100 g of liver in another petri dish. Then put equal amounts of hydrogen peroxide for an equal period of time in both dishes. Drain the dishes and titrate them with potassium permanganate simultaneously. The numbers can now be compared using the steps in the sample calculation above in the lab report. In order to compare perform a potassium permanganate titration on pure hydrogen peroxide. Of the thousands of enzymes known, there is a family of enzymes called proteases that catalyze a reaction of breaking down proteins. What do you think would happen if you added a protease to your sample of catalase before proceeding with your experiment? The catalase would be broken ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The same idea can be applied to video games. Playing online games taught me patience, how to interact with other people around the world and how to manage my stress. Two factors in online games that can determine my interest are drop rates and game difficulty. A drop rate is the probability or ratio that determines how much more or how much less an item will become available from an enemy in a game. The drop rate for some items can be miniscule. The feeling when I accomplish something so difficult makes the task worth it. Because I am stationed overseas, I do not get to spend time with my family back in the states, and it causes stress. For example, if you leave your child sitting in front of the TV watching Teletubbies they are less likely to be on the same level other kids are on because they don t just sit there and watch TV all day. The more time infants spend sitting in front of the TV, the harder it will be for them to learn how to communicate. With that being said TV is only a medium for transmitting data, nothing more nothing less. It s important to teach kids during the childhood phase how to be social and to learn social skills and how to talk and interact with one another all the things a child can t learn/do if all they do is sit in front of a TV all day. It will include an understanding of theories and concepts in relation to diversity where it will address the needs of diverse communities, individuals and groups, exploring differences in relation to culture, ethnicity, gender, age, sexuality, social class and economic wellbeing. It will also demonstrate an understanding of principle of working in an anti oppressive and anti discriminatory way. In relation to social work diversity does not simply mean difference in race and gender but also the unnoticeable differences such as values, religion, social background, economic wellbeing and political beliefs. It is important to acknowledge and understand diversity in social work as there have been matters of holding assumptions and prejudices about an individual or group in the manner they are treated and the services they receive. The issue with making assumptions and prejudices is acknowledged in the Social Work Professional Capabilities Framework (PCF) as domain 3 explains that diversity is multi dimensional, diversity can effect an individual s life experience in a positive or negative way. This is due to the issues that occur with differences such as oppression, marginalisation and alienation as well as the positive side which includes privilege, power and acclaim (Capabilities within the PCF, 2014). • 8. The Preterm Birth And Autism Prematurity and Autism have long time been thought to be linked. For reason such as late development of preterm infants to the lack of adequate weight at birth. But, is it true that if a baby is born preterm then they are destined to be autistic? In order to answer that question, we must first be educated on preterm infants as well as the disorder of Autism. Not many people are educated on what Autism is and even less are educated on the health and well being of premature babies. The purpose for this research is to shed some light on both autism and premature birth as well as justify if there is any connection between preterm birth and autism. When one thinks of a baby born prematurely many imagine a tiny one pound baby barely able to live even with all the ventilators and machines hooked up to it. They imagine a baby that will be under weight and unable to leave the hospital for many months to come. Few will know the risk factors that come along with being preterm, and even less will know that preterm babies are just as capable of living healthy and normal lives. Every child develops in their own unique way, and your baby s development will depend on a range of factors, including his genetic make up, and the environment and influences around him (https://www.tommys.org). With Home Depot s rapid expansion, they experienced the diseconomies of scale through decentralized purchasing, multiple suppliers for the same goods and difficulty managing the number of stores, all items that Nardelli addressed. When Nardelli took over, he shifted the strategy to integrated. • 27. Decolonization Of The British Empire Decolonization in the British Empire is a deliberate process involving the colonial power and emerging local elite. The discussions in Chapters 1 and 2 provide insights into colonial development and the pre independence environment which provide context for answering the research questions and testing the hypotheses. This chapter examines the first question why do some newly sovereign states retain ties with the JCPC? Based on my theory that states chose the final appellant court it expects to be a reliable partner in the new governing coalition. The emerging elite that form the coalition are influence by the colonial experience of colony. For the purposes of this research the U.K. s Westminster Act of 1931 or the official year of independence is considered the critical juncture. The Westminster Act gives the Dominions Australia, Canada, and New Zealand, the option to abolish appeals to the JCPC. The critical juncture for all other states is the year of independence starting with India and Sri Lanka in 1948 to the most recent, Brunei, in 1984. I hypothesize that the longer length of time the state was a colony increases the likelihood that the JCPC will be retained. Second, type of colonial rule direct rule (as opposed to indirect) increases the likelihood that the JCPC will be retained as the final appellant court at independence. This chapter proceeds in the following manner. First, I explain the selection of former colonies for the sample. Second, I present the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. The Psychological And Mental Effects Of Fertility Introduction According to the Department of Health and Human Services (2005), approximately 10% to 15% of couples would experience infertility in some form. Infertility occurs when a couple tries to have children without any success (Chandra, 2005). Though most cases of infertility can be attributed to physiological factors in one or both partners, it still has a psychological impact on the relationship. The psychological and mental effects of fertility are present in both men and women, but there are options to help a couple get through it. Infertility describes the reproductive disease that causes a reduced potential for a man or woman to conceive or the failure of a woman to carry a child to term. Clinically, infertility is defined as the inability of women and men to achieve pregnancy after 12 months of unprotected sexual intercourse. This time frame is reduced to 6 months for women over 35, as women become less fertile as they get older. Infertility in couples is categorized into two broad categories. Primary infertility describes a case without any previous pregnancy, while secondary infertility occurs in a couple who have carried at least one pregnancy to term, but is having fertility problems on further tries. Another reproductive issue closely related to infertility is sterility, which leaves no chance for impregnation. Genetic Factors Like most subjects under life span development, infertility is a result of both genetic and environmental factors. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, for an animation to be successful, the animator should meet the audience based expectations. As I reflect on my animation project, I will focus on the four core competencies used in the making of this project. Critical Thinking The first competency used in my project involved the process of critical thinking. Before I came up with a story for my animation, I thought about numerous ideas that could potentially assist me with exploring the basic fundamentals and skills of animation. The first step was to identify the problem as well as the factors that could influence it. In this case, the type of animation that would be well suited for children ages two to ten. Once I had a clear picture of the problem and the target audience, I began to dive deeper into the issue and its possible solutions. Researching was my second step in the critical thinking process. The northern colonies primarily consisted of people who were looking for religious freedom. It was also comprised of men who were well versed in law and government. A common purpose unified the colonists in the north and helped to create tight knit communities. As a result, the northern states thrived. There was a dramatic increase in population and a longer life span. Economic gain is what drove settlers south. These colonies were mostly comprised of young men with little to no claim in English society. Large plantations replaced tight knit communities. A lack of purpose in religious and social objectives stunted the growth of the southern colonies. By the mid to late 1700 s the southern states began to stabilize and population began to increase. 2. The second difference between the northern and southern colonies were the regional differences between the people. Religion dominated the northern colonies.
