In this Alluxio-hosted webinar, Shouwei will present on the design and implementation of a distributed caching system that addresses the I/O challenges of LLM training and inference. He will explore the unique requirements of data access patterns and offer practical best practices for optimizing the data pipeline through distributed caching in the cloud. OS for AI: Elastic Microservices & the Next Gen of MLNordic APIs AI has been a hot topic lately, with advances being made constantly in what is possible, there has not been as much discussion of the infrastructure and scaling challenges that come with it. How do you support dozens of different languages and frameworks, and make them interoperate invisibly? How do you scale to run abstract code from thousands of different developers, simultaneously and elastically, while maintaining less than 15ms of overhead?
At Algorithmia, we’ve built, deployed, and scaled thousands of algorithms and machine learning models, using every kind of framework (from scikit-learn to tensorflow). We’ve seen many of the challenges faced in this area, and in this talk I’ll share some insights into the problems you’re likely to face, and how to approach solving them.
In brief, we’ll examine the need for, and implementations of, a complete “Operating System for AI” – a common interface for different algorithms to be used and combined, and a general architecture for serverless machine learning which is discoverable, versioned, scalable and sharable.

Alluxio (www.alluxio.io) is an open-source virtual distributed file system that provides a unified data access layer for hybrid and multi-cloud deployments. It enables distributed compute engines like Spark, Presto or Machine Learning frameworks like TensorFlow to transparently access different persistent storage systems (including HDFS, S3, Azure and etc) while actively leveraging in-memory cache to accelerate data access. Developed originally from UC Berkeley AMPLab as research project “Tachyon”, Alluxio has more than 1200 contributors and is used by over 100 companies worldwide with the largest production deployment over 1000 nodes.
This presentation focuses on how Alluxio helps the big data analytics stack to be cloud-native. The trending Cloud object storage systems provide more cost-effective and scalable storage solutions but also different semantics and performance implications compared to HDFS. Applications like Spark or Presto will not benefit from the node-level locality or cross-job caching when retrieving data from the cloud object storage. Deploying Alluxio to access cloud solves these problems because data will be retrieved and cached in Alluxio instead of the underlying cloud or object storage repeatedly.

Speed and efficiency are two requirements for the underlying infrastructure for machine learning model development. Data access can bottleneck end-to-end machine learning pipelines as training data volume grows and when large model files are more commonly used for serving. For instance, data loading can constitute nearly 80% of the total model training time, resulting in less than 30% GPU utilization. Also, loading large model files for deployment to production can be slow because of slow network or storage read operations. These challenges are prevalent when using popular frameworks like PyTorch, Ray, or HuggingFace, paired with cloud object storage solutions like S3 or GCS, or downloading models from the HuggingFace model hub.
In this presentation, Lu and Siyuan will offer comprehensive insights into improving speed and GPU utilization for model training and serving. You will learn:

Speed and efficiency are two requirements for the underlying infrastructure for machine learning model development. Data access can bottleneck end-to-end machine learning pipelines as training data volume grows and when large model files are more commonly used for serving. For instance, data loading can constitute nearly 80% of the total model training time, resulting in less than 30% GPU utilization. Also, loading large model files for deployment to production can be slow because of slow network or storage read operations. These challenges are prevalent when using popular frameworks like PyTorch, Ray, or HuggingFace, paired with cloud object storage solutions like S3 or GCS, or downloading models from the HuggingFace model hub.
In this presentation, Lu and Siyuan will offer comprehensive insights into improving speed and GPU utilization for model training and serving. You will learn:

As Trino users increasingly rely on cloud object storage for retrieving data, speed and cloud cost have become major challenges. The separation of compute and storage creates latency challenges when querying datasets; scanning data between storage and compute tiers becomes I/O bound. The newly introduced Trino file system cache by Alluxio aims to overcome the above challenges. Prefill in LLM inference is known to be resource-intensive, especially for long LLM inputs. While better scheduling can mitigate prefill’s impact, it would be fundamentally better to avoid (most of) prefill. This talk introduces our preliminary effort towards drastically minimizing prefill delay for LLM inputs that naturally reuse text chunks, such as in retrieval-augmented generation. While keeping the KV cache of all text chunks in memory is difficult, we show that it is possible to store them on cheaper yet slower storage. By improving the loading process of the reused KV caches, we can still significantly speed up prefill delay while maintaining the same generation quality.

Explaining GitHub Actions Failures with Large Language Models Challenges, In...ssuserb14185 GitHub Actions (GA) has become the de facto tool that developers use to automate software workflows, seamlessly building, testing, and deploying code. Yet when GA fails, it disrupts development, causing delays and driving up costs. Diagnosing failures becomes especially challenging because error logs are often long, complex and unstructured. Given these difficulties, this study explores the potential of large language models (LLMs) to generate correct, clear, concise, and actionable contextual descriptions (or summaries) for GA failures, focusing on developers’ perceptions of their feasibility and usefulness. Our results show that over 80% of developers rated LLM explanations positively in terms of correctness for simpler/small logs. Overall, our findings suggest that LLMs can feasibly assist developers in understanding common GA errors, thus, potentially reducing manual analysis. However, we also found that improved reasoning abilities are needed to support more complex CI/CD scenarios. For instance, less experienced developers tend to be more positive on the described context, while seasoned developers prefer concise summaries. Overall, our work offers key insights for researchers enhancing LLM reasoning, particularly in adapting explanations to user expertise.

We stepped in to deliver a full QA and DevOps transformation. Our team replaced their fragile legacy tests with Testim’s self-healing automation, integrated Postman and OWASP ZAP into Jenkins pipelines for continuous API and security validation, and leveraged AWS Device Farm for real-device, region-specific compliance testing.
